When I began to see just how much anxiety was affecting me, I started to pray and pray that God would alleviate this burden from my life.
Aside from me being identified as a Mexican immigrant, Hispanic, a microbiologist, a DREAMER, what matters the most is how I identify myself first: a daughter of God; a saint in the making; a citizen of my true home, heaven.
I remember walking back to my dorm after Mass one Sunday, looking at the sky, and feeling distraught that the canvas of clouds and tree tops maybe hadn’t been painted by God and, instead, were just the result of a big, cosmic accident.
Turning 18 is a big point in a person’s life. It’s an age that signifies adulthood. But there’s a lot of life to be lived before you hit that age.
In their own way, the small suffering that comes with the sacrifices we make in Lent begin a transformative work in our hearts so that we may better face the greater sufferings that life will inevitably bring.
Men, there’s nothing wrong with culturally accepted gentlemanly behaviors like learning how to tie a bow tie, treating a girl nicely, or minding your manners, but we need to realize that being a gentleman is about a lot more than these behaviors. Being a true gentleman starts with building a foundation of manly virtue in our lives.
Prayer is a skill and just like anything else it takes practice and patience. Hopefully this music will help.
Voting is described as “morally obligatory” - that’s pretty serious.
Being able to journey with those summer missionaries during my week of camp, and learn from the men especially, absolutely helped make me the man I am today.
