DESCRIPTION
ROLE OF SUMMER INTERN
The Summer Intern helps build a culture of invitation by personally incarnating Life Teen’s mission and core values and leading and planning summer events. Life Teen’s mission statement is: Leading teenagers closer to Christ through an authentic community that is rooted in the Eucharist. Our core values are sacramental, missionary, and authentic.
QUALIFICATIONS
The Summer Intern is a practicing Catholic who upholds all Church teaching by a manner of life. Ideally, the Intern is 21 years old and studying or discerning to work professionally in parish ministry. The candidate must be Virtus trained and be able to engage and direct a crowd while also having administrative skills to plan, coordinate, and communicate weekly events as well as facilitate on a team for our summer trips.
RESPONSIBILITIES (20 – 25 hours)
EDGE (Junior High Ministry)
Wednesday 6:30 pm-7:30 pm
Envisions, plans, and executes EDGE nights from beginning to end
Life Teen (High School Ministry)
Help youth ministers in planning and executing Life Nights
Sunday 6 pm-8 pm
Steubenville (July 18-22)
Attend Steubenville Trip as a small group leader doing relational ministry
Aid youth ministers in any forms, preparation, and planning for this trip
Summer Retreat
Help youth ministers envision, plan, and execute Summer Retreat
Aid youth ministers in any forms, preparation, and planning for this retreat
NUTS AND BOLTS
Reports to: Nick Johnson, Director of Discipleship
Classification: Stipend Internship
Department: Center for Discipleship
Office: St. Michael Parish Office
Physical Demands: Must be able to lift 30lbs, run, jump, and withstand occasional late working hours.
Compensation: $3000 stipend for the summer. Attend all summer trips for free
LIFE TEEN SMA is an outreach of St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church that is leading teens closer to Christ through an authentic community rooted in the Eucharist. We serve a parish community located in the suburbs of Kansas City. A long standing culture of high impact, kingdom building youth ministry with the continual investment of a core team on mission to accompany teens has created a annual reach of over 500 teens.
There are two goals when we have this internship:
To allow our community to walk with middle school teens year round with EDGE
Create a space for young adults to gain experience within parish ministry for those who have a potential call to youth ministry
Past summer interns have all entered into full time ministry either within a parish or serving on mission with FOCUS.
