Youth Minister
Reports to: Director of Evangelization
Full Time
FLSA Status: Salary Exempt

JOB SUMMARY
The youth minister fosters the personal and spiritual growth of young people in middle and high school through evangelization, discipleship, and relational ministry. This role supports St. Joseph Parish Mission “To be and to bring the light of Christ to the (young) people of Mandarin.” Form intentional disciples by providing engaging formation, dynamic retreats, relational mentoring, and vibrant community rooted in the Catholic faith. The youth minister will also serve and support parents and volunteers, empowering them as key partners in youth faith formation.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Spiritual and Relational Ministry
Provide pastoral care, prayerful support, and spiritual guidance to youth, parents, and volunteers.
Serve as a visible, faithful witness of Catholic discipleship, modeling relational ministry by attending youth events, school activities, and parish functions.
Build relationships with families and support parents as primary catechists of their children.
Youth Formation and Programming
Recruit teens to serve on liturgical ministries at the Youth Mass.
Plan and execute weekly High School Youth Nights: plan, oversee formation, logistics, environment, and meals.
Plan and execute bi-monthly Middle School Youth Nights: plan, oversee formation, logistics, environment, and snacks.
Develop and implement a Peer Ministry and Discipleship Formation Program to equip youth to lead and evangelize their peers.
Coordinate the formation and logistics and oversee Confirmation Retreat, including spiritual formation, logistics, and follow-up.
Plan and lead a Middle School (7th grade) Retreat for parish school and PREP students.
Serve on the parish school retreat team for K–8 students.
Retreats, Camps, and Events
Plan and manage yearly youth retreats along with the formation and logistics.
Plan summer camps, including booking transportation, organizing paperwork, managing food and lodging, and tracking payments.
Organize and attend Diocesan youth events with St. Joseph youth, handling all associated logistics and paperwork.
Plan and manage Youth Ministry Cemetery Walk.
Volunteer and Parent Engagement
Recruit, train, and mentor CORE Team members (adult volunteers) for both high school and middle school ministries.
Communicate regularly with parents through weekly or bi-monthly email updates, social media, and personal outreach.
Administrative and Financial Oversight
Organize youth ministry fundraising initiatives.
Track and manage payments, donations, and financial logistics for events, retreats, and camps.
Attend monthly diocesan youth ministry meetings and collaborate with other youth ministers across the diocese.
Communications and Outreach
Manage and create content for youth ministry social media platforms to engage youth and promote events.
Promote service opportunities and coordinate service hours for youth involvement in the parish.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Practicing Catholic in full communion with the Church and a strong commitment to the teachings of the Magisterium.
Bachelor’s degree in theology, Pastoral Ministry, Education, or a related field preferred.
Experience in youth ministry or related pastoral ministry roles.
Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
Ability to recruit, inspire, and mentor both youth and adult volunteers.
Proficient in social media, email communication, and basic office software.
A willingness to work evenings and weekends as needed. 

LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, vendors, employees, and the public.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

REASONING ABILITY
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
