Middle School/Confirmation Youth Minister

DESCRIPTION

JOB SUMMARY

• Accountable for the planning, implementation, delivery and sustainability of the Middle School Edge and Confirmation programs
• Report to the director of youth ministry (DYM)
• Develop and build effective working relationships with teens, parents, volunteers, and parish team to ensure successful operation of Edge and Confirmation programs and related activities.
• Oversee and manage required records and information for the Edge and Confirmation programs.
• This position entails frequent evening and weekend work.

WORK ACTIVITIES

Edge Nights
• Work with DYM to create a 24-week annual plan for curriculum using the Edge resources (social, issue and catechetical) as well as additional material that fits into the vision for youth ministry.
• Lead 3 Edge sessions each week which includes preparing games, proclaims, and prayerful activities.
• Recruit, guide, teach and develop the Edge Core Team.

Confirmation
• Complete archdiocese Communiqué in early January to request Confirmation Masses.
• Collaborate with Liturgy and Music Departments to set schema for Masses.
• Provide all Baptism certificate copies & names of sponsors to parish office for record keeping.
• Organize and arrange logistics: 2 rehearsal evenings, programs and certificates, flowers, photographer, meal for bishop, priests, volunteers, musicians.
• Collaborate with the high school youth minister and DYM to plan Catch the Spirit sessions, offered 2 weeks in the summer, covering diocesan Confirmation topics.
o Preparations include nametags, attendance sheets, refreshments, room setup, cleanup/tear-down

Retreats
• Collaborate with the high school youth minister and DYM to provide two confirmation retreats
• Organize content, logistics, bookings, budget, registration for one 8th grade retreat

Mission trips
• Coordinate all mission trip fundraisers.
• Attend and lead the home and/or domestic mission trips.

Social/Service events
• Coordinate four social/service activities during the school year.
OFFICE DUTIES

• Create and maintain filing and organization systems for records, reports documents, etc.
• Communicate updates via weekly Edge newsletter, parish bulletin, website, social media, Slack
• Prepare pro-forma for all events and manage these events within budget.
• Prepare letters, memos and other documents using word processing, spreadsheet, database, or presentation software.
• Ensure electronic mail and voice messages are responded to promptly with a goal of within 24 hours.
• Move, lift, carry, push, pull and place objects weighing less than or equal to 25 pounds without assistance.
• Honor all requirements of the archdiocese’s safe environment program and Virtus requirements

EXPERIENCE – EDUCATION

• Active, practicing Catholic.
• Two to three years of experience in catechetical ministry preferred, knowledgeable of church organization dynamics.
• Strong program development skills and ability to independently manage multiple projects.
• Demonstrated ability to achieve results through others while providing direction and hands-on support.
• Work on basic and advanced certifications within the Archdiocese of Atlanta
• Personal attributes: integrity, dependability, positive demeanor, initiative, stress tolerance, adaptability
• Past experience with youth ministry and/or Life Teen-Edge programs is a plus.
• Bachelor’s degree preferred.
