Position Summary:
The Assistant Facilities Manager serves as an essential member of the Facilities Team by helping ensure the camp property remains safe, welcoming, functional, and prepared to support every aspect of Life Teen’s ministry. Through excellence, stewardship, and preventative maintenance, this role helps create environments where young people, missionaries, volunteers, and guests can encounter Jesus Christ through the radical hospitality of Life Teen. Working under the leadership of the Facilities Manager, the Assistant Facilities Manager supports the daily operation of the property by completing preventative maintenance, assisting with repairs, maintaining equipment and grounds, preparing guest spaces, and responding to the day-to-day operational needs of the camp. This role is also entrusted with ownership of designated operational systems or specialty areas, developing technical expertise while ensuring recurring responsibilities are carried out with consistency and excellence. Ultimately, this position recognizes that faithful stewardship of the physical environment directly supports t h e mission of Life Teen by creating spaces where ministry can flourish and lives can be transformed through an encounter with Christ.
Essential Ministry Functions / Responsibilities:
Preventative Maintenance: Complete scheduled preventative maintenance tasks, inspections, equipment servicing, and recurring maintenance procedures to help extend the useful life of facilities, systems, vehicles, and equipment.
Routine Repairs: Assist with and complete general maintenance repairs involving plumbing, carpentry, painting, drywall, hardware, fixtures, furniture, and other common building needs within the individual’s training and ability.
Property Readiness: Help prepare cabins, meeting spaces, activity areas, dining facilities, outdoor spaces, and other guest-facing environments for retreats, summer camp, conferences, and special events.
Specialty Area Ownership: Champion one or more designated operational areas, such as groundskeeping, small engines, fleet care, inventory, shop organization, HVAC filters, pressure washing, signage, guest setups, or equipment maintenance.
Grounds & Exterior Care: Support the maintenance and appearance of lawns, trails, roads, landscaping, outdoor gathering spaces, activity areas, and other exterior portions of the property.
Equipment Maintenance: Inspect, clean, service, and maintain tools, lawn equipment, utility vehicles, small engines, and other facilities equipment according to established schedules and procedures.
Work Order Completion: Respond to assigned maintenance requests and work orders in a timely manner while communicating progress, concerns, and additional needs to the Facilities Manager.
Shop & Inventory Organization: Maintain clean and organized workspaces while assisting with the tracking, storage, and replenishment of tools, parts, maintenance supplies, and operational resources.
Seasonal Operations: Assist with summer preparation, winterization, storm response, seasonal transitions, and other property readiness procedures established by the Director of Facilities and Facilities Manager.
Property Inspections: Conduct routine inspections of assigned buildings, equipment, guest areas, and operational systems to identify maintenance concerns before they become larger issues.
Safety & Risk Awareness: Follow established safety procedures, properly use personal protective equipment, report hazards, and ensure tools and equipment are operated responsibly.
Facilities Team Support: Support the Director of Facilities and Facilities Manager with maintenance projects, contractor coordination, property improvements, special events, and other operational priorities.
Cross-Department Collaboration: Work respectfully and collaboratively with camp staff, missionaries, volunteers, and ministry teams to respond to facility needs and support camp programming.
Documentation & Communication: Accurately complete maintenance records, inspection checklists, work orders, equipment logs, and other documentation while communicating emerging concerns to the Facilities Manager.
Professional & Technical Development: Continually develop knowledge and proficiency in maintenance, skilled trades, equipment operation, safety practices, and facilities systems through training, mentorship, and hands-on experience.
Mission Stewardship: Approach every responsibility with the understanding that excellence in facilities supports evangelization by creating safe, functional, and welcoming environments where ministry can flourish.
