DESCRIPTION
The Diocese of Pensacola-Tallahassee is seeking a passionate, organized, and mission-driven Director of Catholic Campus Ministry to lead and grow a vibrant Catholic ministry for college students at the University of West Florida and Pensacola State College. The Director will provide leadership in evangelization, discipleship, student outreach, pastoral accompaniment, and administrative oversight, helping students encounter Jesus Christ and grow as lifelong disciples in the Church.
This position requires a strong Catholic identity, relational leadership, organizational skill, and the ability to build a ministry that is both spiritually fruitful and operationally effective.
Primary Responsibilities
Lead the overall vision, direction, and day-to-day operation of campus ministry.
Develop a ministry budget and secure funding for the ministry.
Lead development and fundraising projects.
Build a culture of evangelization, discipleship, prayer, and sacramental life.
Develop and coordinate student programming, small groups, service opportunities, and leadership development with assistance from the Catholic Campus Ministry (CCM) Staff.
Alongside the Director of Spiritual Formation, help with logistics and planning of retreats.
Recruit, train, and supervise student leaders, interns, and volunteers.
Collaborate with clergy, parish staff, diocesan leadership, and university partners.
Oversee ministry communications, including email, social media, newsletters, and promotional materials.
Maintain organized systems for record keeping, reporting, and program coordination.
Oversee CCM Staff.
Hold a seat on the Advisory Board.
Collaborate with the Director of Spiritual Formation to communicate monthly prayer intentions with the prayer team.
Qualifications
Practicing Catholic in full communion with the Church and committed to her teachings.
Bachelor’s degree required; (Master’s degree in theology, pastoral ministry, or related field preferred).
5-10 years of experience in campus ministry, parish ministry, youth ministry, or young adult evangelization.
Strong leadership, administration, communication, and organizational skills.
Ability to work collaboratively while also taking initiative and leading independently.
Heart for evangelization and forming missionary disciples.
Ability to connect well with college students and young adults.
Competent in word processing and communication technology; familiarity with basic design software and website maintenance preferred.
Ability to maintain confidentiality, professionalism, and healthy boundaries.
Willingness to work varied schedule, including evenings and weekends as needed.
Experience leading teams and managing multiple priorities.
Familiarity with the culture and rhythms of university life.
Pass a background and credit check.
Catholic Campus Ministries—better known as the Catholic Argos—is the Catholic presence at the University of West Florida, serving students, faculty, and staff across a university, along with college-aged young adults throughout Northwest Florida. Hosted by Nativity of Our Lord Catholic Church on property adjacent to campus, the ministry’s approach is deliberately relational: it aims to live the encounter with Christ and invite others to “come and see,” putting persons ahead of programming and taking care of relationships intentionally. That plays out through weekly Faith Night, one-on-one discipleship mentoring, men’s and women’s groups, retreats and pilgrimages, an active student leadership team, and an alumni association.
Pensacola sits at the western edge of the Florida Panhandle, squarely within the Bible Belt—a region where faith is part of everyday conversation, but where Catholics remain a small minority. It is a place of sugar-white beaches and conservative values, with an affordable cost of living, no state income tax, and mild winters that make it easy to put down roots. The University itself is growing, and in recent years students have come from across the country and around the world to attend. The campus is heavily wooded, threaded with walking and biking trails, and sits just twenty minutes from the Gulf.
Catholicism remains the minority here, yet a steady number of students find their way to us each semester—some wanting to learn what the Church actually teaches, others ready to enter it. Evangelization in this diocese is not theoretical. It happens in ordinary conversations, week after week.
