I looked forward to these nights because I was challenged by the topic or affirmed by my friends, but also because my friends relied on me to hold them accountable with their struggles and celebrate their joys. But then summer would come and the routine would change, leaving me anxious and wondering about the state of my friendships.
There were two routes of discernment for me. The first, grasping at what I thought I wanted. The second, surrendering and receiving where Jesus was leading me.
It breaks my heart a little bit to hear those complaints because that’s not the God I know and love.
Chances are, your heart has been or will be broken at one time, too. As death is part of life, heartbreak is part of love. It may be tempting, in the midst of pain, to become cynical about loving someone again.
