Yes, we prayed to God and talked about love.
Yes, we made the effort to be in a house (well, field) of worship.
Yes, there was even bread to symbolize the Last Supper.
But, I knew, in my heart of hearts that this wasn’t what I was entirely created for.
It may be a shock, but even the most powerful and beautiful tools in a Catholic’s spiritual arsenal can be rendered useless or empty because of our tendency to sin.
With a new year comes new opportunities to build or rebuild relationships with the staff we serve with, our parishioners, parents, and especially our teens. It will be tempting to sink back into old structures, habits, and modes of doing ministry "the way things were." However, the ways we minister going forward will require vulnerability, and we will need to continue to adapt to new needs, issues and circumstances.
Worshiping is all about taking time to not look inward to ourselves, but looking outward to God. It’s about putting God exactly where He belongs in our life -- right in the center, lifted up high.
I cannot sanctify myself, and, thankfully, that’s not my job. My job is to love my Savior, to ask patiently and persistently for the grace of humility, and to trust that everything—including my sanctification—is in His hands.
