DESCRIPTION
Qualifications: The Youth Ministry Assistant must uphold Church teaching in all areas of his/her life, and demonstrate through his/her character, words, and actions an active life of prayer. The candidate should have strong interpersonal, communication, and leadership skills, be able to work as part of a team, be able to engage middle and high school students in small and large group settings, and show creativity, reliability, dedication, initiative, and follow-through. Employment will depend upon successful compliance with diocesan safe environment policy as well as proof of a valid driver’s license, insurance, and reliable transportation.
Position Summary and Responsibilities: The Youth Ministry Assistant works closely with the Director of Youth Ministry to help plan, prepare, and execute summer youth ministry at St. Michael the Archangel Parish. This position consists primarily of ministry to high school students (rising 9th grade and up), with one week of middle school ministry (rising 7-9th). This is a seasonal position, beginning as early as April or May, and scheduled to terminate at the beginning of the school year (September). There may be a possibility to stay on part-time throughout the school year with significantly reduced hours.
Responsibilities will include but are not limited to:
• Meet for a weekly holy hour and check-in with the Director to pray, review progress, and set upcoming objectives for the ministry for that week
• Assist with planning, preparing for, and leading high school trips: Mission Week (June 14-19), Steubenville Youth Conference (July 17-19), and a Camping Retreat (July 31-August 2)
• Assist with planning, preparing for, and leading parish Middle School Work Camp (July 6-9)
• Plan and coordinate a student leader retreat for a small group of upperclassmen near the end of summer (Tentative, dates TBD in consideration of assistant’s availability)
• Help plan, lead, and/or chaperone weekly and other ministry events like Bible study and serving the poor at the Red Door
• Lead teens in small group discussions and prayer
• Prepare engaging and relevant faith talks and testimonies
• Perform ministry administrative tasks (e.g. emails, managing registrations, shopping for supplies, making phone calls)
• May be asked to contribute to and help maintain youth ministry communications via Instagram, Flocknote, and the parish bulletin
• Love God and minister with humility
Schedule: Hours will vary widely week to week based on youth ministry needs and events, with a priority on being present for summer trips
Pay: $16.50/hour (anticipated between $4,950-$6,600 for the summer)
