DESCRIPTION

Position Summary

The Resource Specialist is primarily responsible for high quality interior layout of printed and digital books, pdf documents, and other catechetical resources published by Life Teen. This position also provides administrative support for contracts, invoices, and calendaring.

Essential Ministry Functions / Responsibilities

  • Lay out the provided assets (text, graphics, and photos) for interior pages of all subscriber-specific catechetical resources.
  • Collaborate with Edge, Kickstart, and Life Support Coordinators to achieve goals of layout design.
  • Revise and refine layout based on feedback from the Director of Catechesis & Research and other stakeholders.
  • Review and proof layouts to ensure they are free from errors.
  • Maintain knowledge of latest design trends, particularly within religious and youth-focused publications.
  • Develop a comprehensive understanding of brand and mission, becoming familiar with Life Teen’s mission, values, and target audience.
  • Ensure designs align with Life Teen’s brand guidelines and tone.
  • Design layouts for print materials, including books, brochures, posters, and promotional materials as needed.
  • Design and layout e-books, PDFs, and other digital resources.
  • Ensure designs are functional and user-friendly, prioritizing readability and navigability.
  • Test digital designs on various devices and platforms to ensure consistency.
  • Source appropriate images for each resource as requested, ensuring they meet quality and licensing requirements.
  • Design original graphics, charts, or illustrations as needed.
  • Organize and store all designs and resources in an easy-to-navigate manner.
  • Ensure files are appropriately backed up and shared with relevant team members.
  • Work within set budgets for design projects, ensuring cost-effective solutions without compromising quality.
  • Submit invoices and contracts for the Catechesis department as needed.
  • Participate in team meetings and brainstorming sessions.
  • Participate in staff Holy Hours, office Masses, and staff retreats.
  • Complete other tasks and projects as needed and communicated.

Success Factors

  • Proficiency in Adobe InDesign and a working knowledge of the Adobe Create Suite.
  • Proficiency on Mac computer systems.
  • Experience with interior layout design for books or similar publications.
  • Keen eye for details and aesthetics.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with a team and to receive constructive criticism.
  • Proficiency in organization, efficiency, and communication.
  • Well-developed sense of workflow, time management and prioritization of projects.
  • Knowledge of Catholic youth ministry with a servant’s heart and ministry mindset.
  • Ability to adapt to new technologies.
