Director of Youth Ministry
COMPANY: St Peter’s Catholic Church
LOCATION: Kansas City, MO

DESCRIPTION

St Peter’s Catholic Church, in Kansas City, MO (Brookside) is seeking to hire a Director of Youth Ministry. The candidate applying should be a highly motivated, independent, self starter who has a pioneer spirit and thinks outside of the box. They have the skills and gifts which makes them capable of building a program for 6-12 graders from the ground up.

50% of the job will be in the context of building and running a church youth ministry, but the other 50% of this job will be spent in the classroom at St Peter’s Parochial School, with a primary focus on catechizing 6th graders and helping them to discern their confirmation. Additionally, they will lead a collaborative effort with staff and students to deepen the culture of discipleship in the school. Many of the youth in the school will also be involved in the youth ministry of the Church. So, the half-school, half-church job structure should be seen as strategically building off of one another. This position is new to the school and the church, so you will have the unique opportunity to create this ministry and set the tone for the future.

Here are some questions that might be helpful as you discern whether you should apply for this position.

Are you able to design a comprehensive plan for youth ministry from A to Z that is contextualized especially to the St Peter’s community….that focuses on conversion, discipleship, and catechesis?

Are you able to understand current social influences on youth and identify the major obstacles that get in the way of deeper conversion?

Are you able to persuasively articulate the Catholic faith so that youth both understand and buy-in to our faith (ages 11-18)?

Are you charismatic? That is, does it come natural for you to be able to attract, invite, recruit and build rapport with teens and lead them in discipleship?

Do you have the ability to identify, recruit and train a team of adult and older youth volunteers

Are you a capable administrator who can schedule, plan, organize and implement retreats and events effectively?

Are you able to listen and clearly communicate to parents of teens who have a wide spectrum of beliefs, not necessarily in line with Catholic doctrine and morality?

Even though you should have a pioneer spirit, are you able to work on a team, be highly collaborative, and FLEXIBLE?

Can you manage and teach in a classroom setting?

Candidates who will be considered
Are confirmed and practicing Catholic
Participate in the Sacraments regularly.
Intellectually assent to Catholic Doctrine/Dogma and the Moral teachings of the church as laid out in the Catechism of Catholic Church.
Has an active and habitual prayer life that guides their way of life

All applicants should send cover letter, resume, and list of references to Chad Pirotte at cpirotte@stpeterskc.org
