DESCRIPTION
Recruit, train, deploy, and support teams of volunteers who share responsibility for youth ministry at the parish.
Evangelize and catechize middle- and high-school youth through once-a-week youth groups and other opportunities such as retreats, mission trips, and conferences.
Fundraise for and manage the youth ministry budget, working especially to help open opportunities to families with fewer financial resources.
Assist with parish sacramental preparation, especially Confirmation and occasionally Christian Initiation (OCIA).
Maintain a database with all necessary information for program and parish youth and their families (in coordination with the Faith Formation Assistant).
Other duties as assigned.
St Gabriel’s is a diverse, joyful, and welcoming parish in Port Orchard, WA, a working-class immigrant community just a short ferry ride from the city of Seattle. We have two growing youth groups, plus a Spanish-speaking youth group at our sister parish in nearby Belfair. This position is responsible for running high school and middle school youth groups and will assist with confirmation prep and sometimes OCIA for youth. We are dedicated to forming missionary disciples in line with the vision of Pope Francis.
A good candidate will be comfortable in a diverse environment and working with limited resources; an excellent candidate can speak Spanish and has a personal experience with immigration and/or life in a diverse community. Theological education is a plus; people skills are a must.
