DESCRIPTION

Job Description:
The coordinator of Youth and Family Ministry office will provide leadership and support for parish programs of youth ministry and family formation post the sacrament of Confirmation by working directly with parish leaders, to identify and develop resources to encourage a variety of faith encounters, while supporting the coordination of activities and regular meetings for youth leadership and catholic families. The coordinator will be responsible for offering professional development training to enhance youth ministry leaders at the deanery level, collaborating with the youth leaders at each parish and deanery to enable youth to discern their vocational call and develop a heart of discipleship. Promotion of youth programs and activities on the diocesan level, including the Youth Leaders Council; service projects, summer camps/retreats; and local youth rallies/conferences as determined by the Office of the Bishop. The primary objectives of these programs are to model for the youth how to put their learned faith into action. Lastly, he or she will work alongside the faith formation office to offer family events to promote the goals outlined in the USCCB committees of Laity, Marriage, Family Life, and Youth to enhance parish faith communities while broadening the awareness of living out their catholic identity as a family and supporting the domestic church.

RESPONSIBILITIES specific to the role:
• Supervise, advise, and support Youth Ministry at the parish and deanery level.
• Visit all parishes to connect with pastors, ministry leaders, youth adult advocates, and parents to assess needs and offer support, direction, and resources.
• Coordinate youth leader training and evaluate its implementation across the parish and deanery with the parish youth adult advocate.
• Provide outreach to youth in advocacy, evangelization, justice and service, leadership development, community life, and prayer/worship.
• Foster youth involvement in parish life, including serving in various ministerial roles, parish committees, and outreach to support evangelization efforts.
• Promote good morale, adequate communication, and cooperative teamwork with those in youth ministry.
• Articulate and support the mission and goals of the Diocese
• Support and be able to explain the mission and priorities of the diocese.
• Serve as a resource to the Bishop on youth ministry and family formation issues.
• Evaluate and determine the needs of the families at the parish and deanery level to offer quarterly events to support the domestic church.
• Ensure that all the youth are safe by safeguarding the requirements set forth by the Safe Environment office.
• Maintain adequate records of the diocese’s youth ministry and family life activities.
• Provide and maintain youth ministry and family life resources for staff and parish use.

RESPONSIBILITEIS specific to the employee

•Help create a productive and harmonious work environment.
•Serve as a team player with diocesan staff and fulfill the responsibilities of a diocesan-level employee and colleagues in the Diocesan Pastoral Center.
• Regularly collaborate with the Diocesan Faith Formation and Adult Ministry offices to ensure that all programs and initiatives in youth ministry and family life align.
•Fulfill other responsibilities as assigned by the Bishop or the employee’s supervisor.
• Work collaboratively with and serve as a resource to pastoral leaders and parish leaders in youth ministry and family life. Seek to establish and develop programs at parishes centered on cultivating and enhancing relationships with youth and families that lead them to Christ.
•Provide formation experiences and support for parishes by scheduling presenters and providing guidance and support to attendees using the Catechetical Institute.
•Attend at least one national convention, retreat, or meeting on youth ministry or family life per year.
•Maintain memberships in national youth ministry organizations and collaborate with other diocesan directors of youth ministry and family life on a regional level.
•Work to develop a network of support and ideas for the continued development of youth ministry and family life best practices suggested by the USCCB committees of Laity, Marriage, Family Life, and Youth.
•Attend diocesan staff meetings, retreats, and other staff events.
•Update the diocesan website and social media accounts regularly to reflect current information.

REQUIREMENTS:
• Committed to evangelization and a practicing Catholic.
• A joy for the catholic faith, the youth, and the support of catholic families in our diocese.
• Working knowledge of Vatican II Documents and the ability to apply them to life and ministry
• Degree in Youth Ministry, Religious Studies, Pastoral Ministry, or equivalent
• Minimum of three years of successful diocesan or parish experience in the appropriate areas of ministry.
• Strong administrative and organizational skills, especially in planning and leadership development.
• Proficiency/experience with social media, word processing, spreadsheets, and other computer skills.
Suggested resources to implement and promote youth encounter:
Promote participation and offer guidance, support, and consultation to parishes and individuals interested in attending national/international events, such as the National Catholic Youth Conference, World Youth Day, Catholic Heart Work Camp, Steubenville Conferences, or other such events as determined by the Office of the Bishop.
