A Virtual Life Teen Retreat on Seeing Jesus

There’s a big difference between seeing and recognizing what it is you’re looking at. That clarity can be the difference between trust and fear, freedom and guilt, and even life and death.


As 2020 rolls on, your teens have seen the first fruits of a culture of death. Countless images of division and destruction flood their curated feeds showing them more than any eye – or heart – should ever have to see, let alone bear.


But Hope has never been far off. With each step, Hope has walked with them. Though blurry and unknown, they just have yet to recognize Him, and will soon see the light that shines before them – they will see Jesus.


Ministry must go on. Regardless of season or circumstance, your heart stirs to find new ways to lead teens into a life-changing moment with Jesus. You know that once they see Him as He is, everything changes. The struggle is worth it, and we want to support you in that effort.


Realizing the limits of many social and safety guidelines, we know one area that might be affected is retreat ministry. Though the typical retreat experience might not be possible, we still believe it’s worth the effort to create something reminiscent of these powerful opportunities to encounter Jesus.


This fall we want to partner with you to create a moment of encounter for your teens through Vision, a virtual retreat focused on seeing Jesus in the midst of life’s journey.

Retreat Details

  • The virtual retreat has been designed to serve as many different parish situations as possible. You can choose to gather your teens and participate live, you can gather together at a later date, or if gathering in person is not an option for you, you can facilitate a virtual retreat experience.
  • The retreat sessions will be live streamed from Camp Covecrest where our team will be gathered together.
  • Groups who register will have access to the recordings of retreat sessions until December 31, 2020.
  • Sessions will be live streamed each day, while other pieces such as prayer experiences, sacraments, group discussion, and meals take place locally at the parish (or via local virtual means).
  • Group leaders will receive a retreat guide that outlines the local portions of the retreat.
  • Group leaders will receive t-shirt and journal designs for printing locally if desired.

Retreat Sessions

Registered group leaders will receive a more in-depth guide to the retreat, but here’s a sneak preview of the content:

 

  • Session 1: Blind Spot – We’ll begin by focusing on the things that prevent us from seeing Jesus.
  • Session 2: Lenses – We’ll look at the various lenses that shape or distort the way we see Jesus.
  • Session 3: Farsighted – We’ll discuss how throughout salvation history prophets have pointed to Jesus and how we too have a place in that plan.
  • Session 4: Focus – We’ll zoom in to focus on the core of love by taking a closer look at the cross.
  • Session 5: Iris – We’ll conclude by sharing how when we draw close to Christ in the Mass we begin to see more clearly and receive light into our lives.

Registration Details

 

  • This virtual retreat is completely free, but parishes must register to gain access!
  • The retreat is only available to parishes who are currently subscribed to Life Teen, Edge, or Purpose.
  • The retreat is for high school teens.
  • All teens must be registered as part of a parish group. The retreat is not designed to be experienced alone so we are unable to take individual registrations.
  • An adult group leader must register the group and be willing to take responsibility for the registration and participation policies, coordinating the local portions of the event, and accompanying the teens in their group throughout the event.
  • All participating parishes must adhere to their diocesan Safe Environment guidelines regarding chaperones and COVID-19 safety procedures.
