In Helping Teens with Stress, Anxiety, and Depression, Roy Petitfils—a Catholic author, speaker, and psychotherapist—offers his personal experience, advice, and faith to give parents, pastors, and youth leaders the knowledge, courage, and tools they need to step in, make a difference, and be the presence of Christ for teens in crisis.
The past months and the realities of 2020 have completely changed our approaches to youth ministry. Many things across the world have presented new challenges, and new opportunities, to rethink how we reach out to middle school youth and lead them to Christ. The following social nights have been created to be used in a variety of settings — both digital and in person settings that are adaptable to any necessary social distancing regulations. They include opportunities for the youth and their families to do fun activities together as they grow in community as well as opportunities to continue to grow the community of the middle school youth, and even a chance to connect with another parish that does Edge. While we might not be able to meet and do things the way we have always done them, we still have incredible opportunities to provide middle school youth with opportunities to grow in community and find meaningful connections.
Given our digital communication capabilities, we may turn to video conferencing as a means to meet with teens. Whether it is a simple mid-week meeting or a full-blown Life Night or Edge Night, video conferencing has become the answer to the question, “How do we meet without actually being in person?” But this does not mean that the experience of meeting online has to be awkward, less-than, or “unfun.”
Instead, we have to make this time as fruitful and pleasant as possible. Whether it be a snow day in Wisconsin, an incoming tropical storm in Florida, the rise of another global pandemic, or a chaotic — seemingly inevitable — zombie apocalypse that keeps you from meeting in person, do not fear. This book offers games and activities that will guide you in spicing up online meetings regardless of circumstance. Welcome to Cyber Showdown.
