As we begin this semester on the Person of Christ, we need to start with faith. A lot of times when we talk about faith, we speak of it as something we create and conjure up, rather than a gift of God. “Faith is a gift of God, a supernatural virtue infused by him” (CCC 158). Like all that is good, faith starts with God – not with us. We merely respond to what God has already given. Nevertheless, response on our part is critical. “Believing is possible only by grace and the interior helps of the Holy Spirit. But it is no less true that believing is an authentically human act” (CCC 154).
