“Then the Lord God said, ‘It is not good that the man should be alone’” (Genesis 2:18). We are called outside of ourselves to friendship and community. In fact, our Trinitarian God is a community of Persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. The very nature of who our one God is — a community of three divine Persons — provides the basis for our fundamental call to action. This is expressed perfectly and completely in the law of love: “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind,” and “you shall love your neighbor as yourself.” (Matthew 22:37, 39). God made us with an inward desire to extend and connect outwardly. The goal of And is for teens to learn the importance of cultivating dynamic and fruitful friendships that draw from Scripture and the example of Jesus, who is the perfect friend.
