Universal Outlook The Four Marks of the Church - Catholic About this Life Night Life Night begins with a Catholic trivia game show that tests the teens’ knowledge of prayers, songs, and Bible verses that they are familiar with and that are used in the worldwide Church. The teaching for the Life Night focuses on the Church as ‘catholic’ or ‘universal.’ During the Proclaim, teens will learn the importance of the Church’s mission to hand on the fullness of faith to the whole world. During the Break, teens will make connections between their local church community and the worldwide Church. The Life Night closes with a time of Eucharistic Adoration and provides the teens with an opportunity to pray and reflect on the importance of staying close to Jesus and his Church as they participate in His mission. Goal of This Night The goal of this Life Night is to help teens understand why we consider the Catholic Church to be the universal Church and to help them recognize their role in the universal church as well as the importance of sharing their faith with others. The Church is universal because Christ sent it on a mission to all people, and because of Christ, the Church is the means of salvation for all people. Everyone in the Church is called to holiness, and everyone in the Church shares the mission to bring Christ to the whole world. The laity is called to help spread this message and evangelize. Jesus established the Church as a way of protecting and handing on the gift of salvation, and membership in the Church is the ordinary (normal) way and means of receiving that gift.
