The Apostle of California A Life Night on Saint Junipero Serra About this Life Night This Life Night begins with a Gather activity, Marshmallow Mission, which challenges the teens to make a mission church out of marshmallows and pretzel sticks. It continues with the Proclaim that talks about the life of St. Junipero Serra and his missionary work throughout California. The Break is a small group discussion on our call to evangelization and mission. The Send is a prayer to the patrons of the nine mission churches St. Junipero Serra founded. Goal of This Night The goal of this Life Night is to introduce the teens to the life of St. Junipero Serra and to inspire them to evangelize those who have not heard the Gospel. Catechism # 828 Scripture Matthew 28:18 -20 Church Documents evangelii-gaudium Key Concepts • Instead of living a comfortable life as an intellectual priest in Spain, St. Junipero Serra followed God’s call to evangelize those on the edge of the known world who had not yet heard the Gospel, the native peoples of the new world. • Periphery is the word Pope Francis is using to describe those on the outskirts of our communities. He calls us to reach out to, bring in, and introduce those on the edge of our communities to Jesus. • Saint Junipero Serra did this by establishing mission Churches up the coast of California. How are you called to reach those on the edges of your community? End of Free Preview Thanks for reviewing this Life Night! If you would like the full version of this resource please sign in.
