Red Soldier A Life Night on Saint Jose Sanchez Del Rio and the Universal Call to Holiness About This Life Night The Life Night begins with teens in small groups preparing a “rally cry” to help them overcome the challenges they face in living out their faith. The Proclaim discusses the life of St. José Sánchez del Río with a focus on encouraging the teens to be holy. During the Break, the teens make sacrifice beads and discuss the sacrifices they will have the opportunity to make in order to grow in holiness. The Send encourages teens to pray with the martyrs and to ask for the courage to live out their faith, even in the face of persecution. Goal of This Night The goal of this Life Night is to remind teens that they are called to be holy today. Through an examination of the life and death of St. José Sánchez del Río and an introduction to the Universal Call to Holiness, teens will be inspired to deepen their faith and to love Jesus Christ more fervently. Catechism # 901 # 908 # 2099 - 2100 # 2473 - 2474 Scripture Luke 9:23 Philippians 3:8 Hebrews 12:4 1 Peter 5:8 Key Concepts – All people, no matter their age or vocation, are called to live a life of holiness. – By the time he was 14, St. José had already developed a deep love for Jesus and His Church, so much that he was willing to sacrifice his life for his faith. – While most of us are not called to sacrifice our lives as martyrs, the Christian life is inherently one of sacrifice. As we make sacrifices to avoid temptation, and sacrifice what we want for what God wants, we become more and more holy. Key Terms Universal Call to Holiness – All people, no matter their age or vocation, are called to a life of holiness. Red Martyrdom- The act of sacrificing one’s life for one’s faith.
