Mass Fitness Words and Body Language at Mass About this Life Night This Life Night begins with a “Catholic Workout.” Teenagers enter the main meeting space, which has been set up like a fitness center and are put through some “Catholic Calisthenics.” The Life Night begins with a humorous workout video, and then it transitions into a teaching about the importance of our body language, gestures, and prayers at Mass. Teenagers break into their small groups, take a group quiz about the various parts of the Mass, and then engage in a discussion about their participation each week in Sunday Liturgy. The Life Night closes with a meditation on the Lord’s Prayer and an experience of praying with arms outstretched in the orans position. Goal of This Night The goal of this Life Night is to introduce teenagers to the importance of our prayer posture during Mass, as well as the language that we use at various points in the liturgy. Teenagers will be challenged to truly reflect and pray on the words we say and the actions that we use during Mass. We are called to full, active, and conscious participation in the liturgy. We are not spectators or an audience, but a common priesthood that prayerfully enters into the liturgy through our responses, songs, and participation. The Church celebrates Masses within the liturgical year, which marks time with the mysteries and events of Christ’s life. It sanctifies our calendar and allows every year to be grace filled.
