Heart of God Life Teen's Annual Theme About This Life Night The Life Night begins with a Gather that gets teens reading Scripture and messy as they are challenged with gathering “new hearts” for their small group. The Proclaim is on the heart of God and God’s desire to give us new hearts. The Break is a small group discussion. The Send is an opportunity to encounter God heart to heart while praying with Scripture through lectio divina. Goal of This Night The goal of this Life Night is to introduce teens to the idea that God’s heart is fully oriented toward love and He desires to gift us with new hearts. Catechism # 27 # 253 # 457 - 458 Scripture Psalms 51: Ezekiel 36:26 1 John 4:8 Acts 13:22 Key Concepts – Our “heart” represents our absolute direction. – Because of sin, our hearts can be so badly diseased that we need new ones. – Since God is love, God’s heart is oriented toward love which expresses itself in mercy and the donation of His Son so we may receive new hearts. As You Get Started... For an alternate Gather, play I Love My Neighbor Who…. Have the teens sit in a large circle with chairs. Have one teen stand in the middle of the circle. Then, they complete the sentence, “I love my neighbor who….” and the teens who fit that category have to switch seats. The teen left without a seat repeats the process. Transition into the Proclaim by explaining God loves all His neighbors because His is love and His heart is oriented toward love. For an environment in the Send, project a large image of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. Softly play the “Heartbeat sound white noise” as teens pray. For a deeper Send, consider inviting your music minister or a local worship leader to the Life Night to conclude it with a period of praise and worship that culminates in the chorus of “Memorial” by Ike Ndolo.
