Beyond Storytime (Parent Night) Liturgy of the Word About this Parent Night One of the many reasons people struggle with paying attention during Mass is because they do not understand all the different parts and movements. This Parent Night begins to break open the first movement of the Mass – the Liturgy of the Word. The session begins with a group game guessing the type of reading a particular Scripture passage would be. Following, the teaching for the Parent Night will discuss the importance of Sacred Scripture in the Liturgy of the Word. After some time for small group discussion, the parents will have an opportunity to learn a new form of prayer, Lectio Divina, and spend time meditating on Hebrews 4:12. The session will close in prayer thanking God for the gift of Sacred Scripture and the ways He is moving in the lives of the parents. Goal of This Night The goal of this Parent Night is to explain the Liturgy of the Word and to help parents develop habits to hear the Word of God in a new, transformative way, both during and outside of Mass. Catechism # 65 # 101 - 104 # 1073 # 1153 - 1155 Scripture Isaiah 55:11 Hebrews 4:12 Key Concepts We gather for Mass and prepare ourselves through the Introductory Rites so we are ready to receive God’s Word and the Eucharist. The Liturgy of the Word is of great importance in the celebration of liturgy. When it is proclaimed, we hear the voice of God, are brought into the story of our salvation, and strengthened by it. Embracing and praying through the Liturgy of the Word helps us to recognize and follow God’s voice outside of Mass and throughout our week. End of Free Preview Thanks for reviewing this Life Night!
