Youth Ministry Director

DESCRIPTION

The primary objective of this newly created position is to assist our Parish in scaling the impact of our Life Teen, EDGE and Confirmation programs to over 100 participants per program by 2024 and to over 150 participants by the end of 2025. This requires a dynamic and driven Director of Youth Ministry who is well supported by the Parish Priests and Church community. Our parishioners have agreed to invest fully into this initiative.

We are seeking a Christ-loving, proven youth ministry leader to carry out our parish vision of reaching out and engaging teens and leading them closer to Christ. The Director of Youth ministry will report to the pastor and lead our youth ministry staff, youth ministry musician and volunteer core teams. This dynamic position provides the needed leadership and oversight necessary for the quality and delivery, and growth of our high school, middle school, and youth Confirmation preparation programs. This candidate needs to cultivate interest and support from the larger parish community on the importance and impact of a vibrant youth ministry. This energetic candidate is apt at building relationships within the parish staff, youth ministry families and the larger parish community, as well being collaborative in the development, implementation, and sustainability of our parish’s vision for youth ministry.

Specific Candidate Profile
Experience – Skills – Education

  • Christ loving, practicing Catholic, values spiritual direction, and takes annual retreat.
  • 5 years minimum of experience in youth programs, on staff or as a volunteer, preferably ministry related.
  • Experience working in a parish or similar Christian organization.
  • Knowledgeable of process, techniques and strategies to manage religious programs or ministry, with a proven track record in the development and execution of such programs; i.e. strong process management skills and the ability to independently manage multiple projects involving staff and volunteers.
  • Demonstrated ability to achieve results through others, while providing expertise and hands-on support.
  • Experience in managing budget, pro-forma and/or statements to meet cost management goals.

WORK ACTIVITIES

Managing Youth Ministry Logistics & Operations

  • Plan multiple calendars according to the long-term vision and objectives for: Life Nights (High School), Edge Nights (Middle School), Parents 4 Life, multiple Core Teams (Volunteers), Confirmation Preparation, mission trips, summer camps, conferences, fundraising, bi-annual retreats, and weekly small groups.
  • Develop and train the volunteer core team members, focused on learning how to engage and lead teens closer to Christ.
  • Create ministry evaluation and performance plans for ongoing ministry improvement.
  • Staff management: delegation, scheduling, and budgeting.
  • Oversee annual budget, finances, and program pro-forma process.
  • Manage and protect operating costs within budgeted targets.
  • Conduct meetings and performance evaluations with staff team to ensure alignment of vision and create clear systems of accountability to achieve goals.
  • Develop the overall vision and communication strategy for all youth ministry departments, including social media.

Leading Youth Ministry

  • Communicates to the Youth Ministry staff and the Core Team so that expectations are understood, and the facilitation of meaningful programming is consistently achieved.
  • Design, implement and maintain weekly communication through website, bulletin, onsite screens, and social media.
  • Create an active outreach process to drive youth attendance/participation.
  • Foster cohesion and collaboration among the youth team members.
  • Set priorities and drive results through effective volunteer management, present ideas clearly and persuasively so that vision objectives are met.
  • Promote innovation and keep abreast of newest trends and continuing education to remain equipped to foster great youth ministry impact and participation.
  • Honor all requirements of the Diocese on maintaining a “safe environment” and reporting procedures from the diocese.
  • Ensure sensitive issues for the teens are handled pastorally: with tact, respect, diplomacy, and confidentiality.
  • Spearhead Core and Teen leadership recruitment and formation.
