Brief Description
St. Teresa of Avila is a vibrant and active parish of nearly 2,200 families located in the greater Augusta, Georgia area. It is a parish within the Diocese of Savannah. We serve all Catholics in the Columbia County area, which includes 5 high schools and 8 middle schools. The youth have 3,000 sq ft of dedicated space within our newly constructed, state-of-the-art activity center. The youth minister is responsible for leading Christ-centered Youth Ministry for middle and high school-aged students (grades 6 – 12). The youth minister works with a team of volunteers to lead youth closer to Christ through youth nights, retreats, conferences, service projects, etc. Our goal is to create young disciples of Jesus, who boldly share Him with others.
Responsibilities
• Plan, design, and implement a comprehensive youth ministry program for students in grades 6 -12.
• Prepare an annual calendar of lessons and events in advance of each school year.
• Develop positive, purposeful engagement in relational ministry with youth and parents.
• Communicate with parents and teens all opportunities and publicize to the parish (bulletin, website, social media, bulk mailings, etc.)
• Regular ongoing communication with parents regarding curriculum and requirements.
• Plan and implement retreats, summer mission trips, and social opportunities.
• Coordinate fundraisers.
• Recruit and train volunteers to be part of the leadership and support team with an emphasis on young adult leaders and parents.
• Make and maintain positive relationships with leaders of the community, especially those leaders of our school and other organizations/ministries.
• Coordinate and assist the Director of Religious Education (DRE) with Vacation Bible School (VBS) and special Liturgies.
Qualifications
BA or MA Degree in Theology, Youth Ministry, Religious Education, or other related field preferred. Experience in Catholic Youth Ministry required. Must be a fully initiated and practicing Catholic.
