The Steubenville Youth Conferences, an outreach of Franciscan University of Steubenville, are a series of 24 conferences across North America that help teens encounter the love of Christ every summer. Each summer, Life Teen hosts several Steubenville Youth Conferences with the hopes of strengthening and inspiring teens and youth groups in their collective journeys to Christ.

Downloadable discussion questions and activities accompany each session, as well, to ensure that your leaders not only see and hear the training but distill it down to practical and foundational steps they can implement within your parish youth ministry programs

Position Title: Youth Minister
Summary: The Youth Minister develops and implements a comprehensive ministry to the youth (grades 6-12) of the parish community. This includes faith formation programs,evangelization and community building activities for the youth.
The Pastor will provide ongoing supervision and support.
Work well with parishioners, parish staff and organizations.
Coordinate with the parish staff for calendar, acquisitions and building space for youth and young adult programs.
Responsibilities and Tasks:
Plan and implement Edge for middle school and LifeTeen for high school youth.
Prepare and teach sacramental preparation for Confirmation.
Develop and implement initiatives for the evangelization of high school youth and young adults.
Explore formation opportunities for youth such as national and regional conferences, retreats, etc.
Recruit, train and supervise program volunteers.
Create and facilitate leadership opportunities for our post Confirmation Discipleship Team.
B. Communication Ministry and Evangelization
Update and schedule Facebook and Instagram posts.
Maintain Parish Website.
Periodically Update Parish App.
Participate in weekly staff meetings and monthly regional meetings.
Maintain the budget for the youth ministry in collaboration with the Business Manager.
Provide program information for parish publications (bulletin,website,Facebook).
Maintain an environment appropriate to legal and moral responsibilities for minors.
Maintain a safe environment and ensure compliance with background checks and VIRTUS requirements.
Must be able to set up, take down and move tables and chairs.
The Youth Minister will participate in an annual evaluation process.
This regular full time position requires 35 hours per week to include weekend work days.
This is a full time exempt position.
Bachelor’s Degree in theology,ministry, religious education or equivalent.
One to three years of experience in Youth Ministry.
Must be a Catholic in good standing.
Must adhere to Catholic teaching and demonstrate a commitment to the Church.

Old Saint Matthew’s was built in 1907 on Hardy Ave., Berkley, Virginia, on donated land. Until 1924, Saint Matthew’s was Saint Mary’s of Norfolk’s mission chapel. Under Father Thomas C. Healey the parish had a vision of expanding the parish. Thirteen and a half acres in Sherry Park would be the future home of Saint Matthews, however, Father Thomas, suffering many health problems would not see come to fruition. He passed away May 15, 1958. In, 1959 Father Harris Findlay, with help from a fund raising campaign, made the dream of an expansion a reality.
