Youth and Campus Minister

DESCRIPTION

Reports to the Pastor Hours: Full-time; flexible/ hybrid days, includes evenings and weekends.

Position Summary: The Youth Minister will minister to the parish’s high school-aged and junior high school-aged (grades 6-8) youth through vibrant comprehensive Catholic youth ministry, with the goals of leading teens closer to Christ and forming missionary disciples. They will serve as a collaborative member of the Faith Formation office and serve as a Campus Minister who works directly with the students for the entire parish including our Elementary School.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Reach out to youth and families, particularly those on the peripheries; to invite them to a personal encounter with Christ, and to walk with them on their faith journey.
  • Prepare and facilitate programming including weekly life nights, weekly edge nights, as well as other events.
  • Assist in preparing youth for reception of the Sacrament of Confirmation.
  • Draw on and participate in Diocesan and regional resources and programing.
  • Recruit, train, form, and supervise volunteers, including ensuring safe environment standards.
  • Communicate with youth, families, and parish about youth ministry.
  • Engage youth in parish life, service, diocesan, and national events.
  • Fundraise for major events and maintain budget.
  • Provide opportunities to help elementary school students in grades 3-8 and faculty to grow in their faith.
  • Help plan weekly liturgies with school and parish staff.
  • Organize prayer experiences for students throughout the school year.
  • Assume other responsibilities as requested.
  • Maintain a personal relationship with Christ through regular prayer, Mass attendance, and more.

Required Skills and Abilities:

  • A faithful and passionate Catholic disciple and role model.
  • A solid understanding of the teachings and theology of the Roman Catholic Church.
  • Ability to listen to and interact well with youth, parents, staff, parishioners.
  • Ability to advocate for the needs of the youth of the parish in the face of opposition.
  • Understanding of and adherence to all aspects of Diocesan Safe Environment standards.
  • Other people will describe the right applicant as: joyful, playful, self-motivated, empathetic, vibrant, energetic, enthusiastic, driven, aspiring, bold, positive, persistent, dedicated, and dependable.

Preferred Skills and Abilities:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Theology, Religious Studies, Education, or related field.
  • Knowledge of Pope Francis’ Christus Vivit, the USCCB documents: Renewing the Vision – A Framework for Catholic Youth Ministry and Adaptation of Doctrinal Elements of a Curriculum Framework for the Development of Catechetical Materials for Young People of High School Age For Use In Parish and Youth Ministry Programs and The National Directory for Catechesis and the Pontifical Council for the Promotion of the New Evangelization’s Directory for Catechesis and other pertinent Church documents.
  • Knowledge of diocesan documents from the Secretariat for Catechetical Formation: Catechetical Models for Children and Young People and Sacrament Preparation: Handbook for Catechists.
  • Good organizational and time management skills, creative solution seeker, enthusiastic collaborator, and the ability to handle confidential and sensitive information appropriately.
  • Strong verbal, written, and social media communication skills.
  • Extensive experience with audio/visual and social media.
  • Experience working with school-aged children.

Important to Mention:

  • This is a full-time position with benefits.
  • Understanding that this newly formed position will take a few years to build and develop.
  • Flexibility needed for evening and weekend work hours for a variety of programs and events.
  • Salary: $35,000 to $40,000. Salary negotiable and commensurate with qualifications and experience.

St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception is a Eucharist centered Catholic parish in Wooster, Ohio. 50 miles south of Cleveland, our parish serves the city of Wooster and many of the surrounding rural townships. Our Youth Ministry is committed to empowering the youth to live as disciples of Jesus Christ daily and participate fully in the life of the church. This is accomplished through regular Life Nights/ Edge Nights, scripture studies, hang-outs, discipleship groups, retreats, mission trips, and social events that help the youth grow in deeper relationship with Christ and each other.
