Job Type: Full-Time Position
Location: Phoenix, AZ/Cleveland, OH
Maggie’s Place is a Catholic-based nonprofit that serves homeless pregnant and parenting women through maternity homes and ongoing support. As a MissionCorps Member doing a year of service, you will be the hands and heart of our work.
Our MissionCorps are passionate about supporting women in crisis through direct action. We believe that showing love to each individual mom is what makes our mission work, and you will first and foremost be that community-builder: living in the homes alongside moms and other MissionCorps, sharing meals, doing chores, celebrating accomplishments, and working through hard things together. You’ll take initiative in a variety of situations that range from a mom going into labor, to roommate conflicts, to showing hospitality to visitors when you just want to sit down for five minutes. We will provide continual training, but you will need to be confident in your ability to learn quickly, recover from mistakes, and give and receive healthy feedback. Each MissionCorps Member is in charge of either keeping their donations supply organized, building relationships with our general volunteers, or crafting fun and instructive programming for moms.
We have an immediate need for MissionCorps beginning their year of service in July 2018. Openings are also available for July 2018. We support the MissionCorps with free room & board, health insurance, a $550 monthly stipend, 24 vacation days & 3 personal retreat days per year, a gym membership, an annual community retreat, access to agency vehicles, monthly professional development & spiritual formation, group & individual counseling options, and a strong community prayer life. All MissionCorps must be at least 21 years old with a college degree or equivalent life experience
Maggie’s Place provides life-changing programs and services for pregnant and parenting women and their children by offering a warm and welcoming community, a safe place to live and learn, and ongoing services to help them become self-sufficient.
Our work, at its core, is creating a home. In the spirit of the Catholic Worker tradition of Dorothy Day, our homes are staffed by live-in volunteers, women dedicating a year of service to our work. These MissionCorps Members and moms live in community, learning from and celebrating with each other.
Women may come to a Maggie’s Place home at any point in their pregnancy and stay 9-12 months after the baby is born. After moving out, they become alumnae moms and continue receiving support from the Family Resource Center. Our moms often come to us from difficult situations, which might include addiction, sexual assault and domestic violence, unemployment, limited education, unhealthy relationships, or mental illness. We are here to love the moms unconditionally in the midst of these difficulties.
MissionCorps begin their service in July of each year. To apply, submit an application, resume, and two letters of recommendation to email@example.com. Applications can be found at www.maggiesplace.org/missioncorps.
