Middle School Youth Minister

DESCRIPTION

The Middle School Youth Minister works on the Faith Formation Team and is partnered with an experienced High School Youth Minister. The Middle School Youth Minister is tasked with transitioning and executing our middle school youth ministry. Success in this position depends on the development of a culture of encounter and accompaniment – meaning that this person needs to be able to recruit and train volunteers who are capable of sharing witness and forming relationships with youth.

Middle School youth are at an age developmentally where they present a great opportunity to have a first encounter and first commitment to Jesus Christ. We are transitioning out of a model of classroom catechesis and into a more experiential model of youth ministry. The person in this position will develop a blend of opportunities for “encounter” while also building a youth ministry with developmentally appropriate catechesis.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • All of the responsibilities related to building and nurturing our middle school youth ministry.
  • Engage and communicate with parents in meaningful ways to encourage them to be the first and best teachers of the faith.Launch a weekly middle school youth group for 6th, 7th, and 8th grade Youth.
  • Focus on developing relational ministry opportunities with students at Ave Maria Catholic School and provide opportunities for the school youth to be welcomed into youth ministry.
  • Recruit and train a core team in relational ministry and discipleship. The core team should be capable of leading discipleship groups and assisting in the
    execution of large group events.
  • Manage communication with the core team including schedules, applications, safe environment training, etc.
  • Coordinate youth retreats including Mountain Madness and 2 Confirmation retreats, etc.
  • Prepare students for the Sacrament of Confirmation celebrated in 8th grade.
  • Partner with the Director of Faith Formation to re-imagine preparation for the Sacrament of Confirmation.
  • Ensure proper recording of Sacrament of Confirmation.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Evangelical zeal is the key to this position.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Theology, Youth Ministry, Catechesis or a related field.
  • Experience working or volunteering in a youth ministry setting.
  • Effective public speaking.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Ability to work within a team environment.
  • Attention to detail and self-starter.
  • Experience leading praise and worship (desired but not required).

You will work on a Faith Formation Team that has a Director with 17 years of youth ministry experience and a High School Youth Minister that has built a rapidly growing, discipleship-focused youth ministry.
