Description
The Coordinator of Faith Formation administrates the catechetical program for St. Jude Parish and provides leadership to assist the parish youth and their families to build a solid foundation for spirituality, Christian living, ministry and outreach.
Each leader brings a unique skill set and personality to the faith formation ministry. Using those skills, a faith formation leader seeks to help families:
● Grow in their relationship with God and Jesus for their whole life
● Live as disciples of Jesus at home, work, school, in the community, and in the world
● Learn about the Eucharist, the source and summit of the Catholic faith, the most profound gift from God and His abundant love for us
● Develop an understanding of the Bible and our faith tradition
● Deepen their prayer and spiritual life practices
● Engage in service and mission to the world
● Participate in the life and ministries of our faith community
Description and Spirit of the Responsibilities:
● Support and advocate the parish mission: to know, love and serve God
● Support and advocate the goals and objectives within the “Portrait of a Confirmed Catholic Student” framework
● Recognize, support and meet the needs of all students
● Engage students and families with meaningful and relevant opportunities and lessons to enrich and strengthen their relationship with Jesus
● Promote and build relationships whenever possible with Parishioners and the Norfolk Community and organizations.
● Wrap all that we do with God’s LOVE as we follow our Baptismal call to discipleship
● Connect and plan with pastor, staff, parish council and ministry volunteers to ensure consistency and success of faith formation programs
Planning Responsibilities:
● Develop and implement long and short-term goals and objectives with the faith formation collaborative team
● Coordinate and support delivery of the overall program to families
● Plan and develop curriculum for parish
● Evaluate and assess program/s at regular intervals for effectiveness and relevance
● Coordinate content and logistics of the program including: retreats, mission trips, speakers
Program Responsibilities:
● Select and curate materials to cultivate opportunities for lifelong spiritual growth for the entire family
● Coordinate/Assist in planning sacramental celebration of Confirmation
● Recruit, support, provide ongoing training for parents, catechists and volunteers
● Provide meaningful opportunities to experience and live our faith through seasonal events, prayer, service, mission trips, etc.
● Empower and engage parents with faith education/enrichment to support spiritual growth for the entire family
● Promote and provide opportunities for service when we gather in community and during Mass
● Start and maintain:
○ a middle school social justice and Christian service group
○ a high school social justice and Christian Leadership groups
● Assist and support colleagues and catechists as needed
● Identify strengths, barriers and effectiveness of program/s through evaluation and surveys to students and families
● Coordinate Faith In Action service opportunities
● Manage zoom meetings when needed
Administrative Responsibilities:
● Implement faith formation policies and the guidelines
● Follow the archdiocesan mandates for safe church practices including CORI checks, Protecting God’s Children training for adults and the safety program for students in grades 1-8
● Assists in preparing the Faith Formation budget
● Inform the pastor, parents/guardians, and volunteers about any changes or concerns through on-going communication
● Maintain and update: Faith Formation Handbook, Catechist/Volunteer Handbook
● Maintain class lists and enrollment trends
Relationships:
● Maintain appropriate internal and external communications.
● Communicate regularly with the Pastor and pastoral staff, Collaborative Council, attend staff meetings and collaborate on projects.
● Communicate regularly with catechists, encouraging them, assisting them, and supporting their development
● Communicate with parents regularly and promote their active involvement.
● Act as liaison between the parish FF program and Norfolk Community
Personal and Professional Development:
● Participate in opportunities for continuing professional and spiritual development
Collaborative Responsibilities:
● Meet regularly as a team to share successes and challenges
● Collaborate and divide curating responsibilities
Qualifications:
● Practicing Catholic fidelity to Church teaching
● Computer skills including but not limited to word processing
● Excellent interpersonal skills and proven ability in oral and written communication
● Familiarity with Scripture and basic Church documents regarding catechist and evangelization
Physical Performance Elements:
● Ability to use a computer keyboard for up to 8 hours per day
● Ability to sit for up to 8 hours per day
● Ability to lift up to 20 pounds
