Job Summary
• Accountable for the planning, implementation, delivery and sustainability of the Edge and Confirmation programs
• Report to the director of youth ministry (DYM)
• Manage and sustain effective working relationships with parish team; partner with parents and build connections with volunteers to ensure successful operation of Edge and Confirmation programs and related activities
• Plan, communicate, coordinate and utilize volunteers
• Oversee and manage required records and information for the Edge and Confirmation programs
Work activities
Catch the Spirit classes
• Plan and lead Catch The Spirit confirmation programming sessions covering diocesan Confirmation topics as required based on the number of confirmands.
• Communicate updates and reminders to the parents.
• Collaborate with the high school youth minister and/or DYM on content.
• Preparations include: nametags, attendance sheets, refreshments, room setup, cleanup/tear-down
Confirmation retreats
• Collaborate and attend with the high school youth minister and/or DYM to provide two confirmation retreats for each confirmation year class.
Eighth-grade retreat
• Collaborate and attend the eighth-grade retreat once a year
• Organize content, logistics, bookings, budget, registration Confirmation ceremony
• Ensure all certificates are completed.
• Provide all Baptism certificate copies & names of sponsors to the. parish office for record-keeping and notification purposes within two weeks after Confirmation.
• Lead & organize the rehearsal process, to include room assignments, two Masses & two receptions.
• Collaborate with Liturgy and Music Departments to set schema for Masses.
• Communicate updates and reminders to the parents.
Parent meetings
• Lead rising ninth graders meeting & introduce Confirmation program requirements and expectations.
• Communicate updates and reminders to the parents weekly for Edge and, when needed, with Confirmation parents.
• Collaborate with the communications department and/or DYM to ensure the website is up to date.
• Regularly contribute content for St. Ann youth social media accounts about activities. Mission trips
• Coordinate all mission trip fundraisers.
• Communicate with parents and coordinate all pre-and post-trip meetings.
• Attend and lead the sixth-grade home/local mission trip as well as the seventh and eighth-grade domestic mission trip.
Edge Nights
• Create a 24-week annual plan for curriculum using the Edge resources (social, issue and catechetical) as well as additional material that fits into the vision for youth ministry.
• Set up and clean up/tear down the room.
• Catechesis development: recruit, guide, teach and develop the Edge Core Team.
• Develop an Edge parent advisory board and work in collaboration with it.
• While following safe environment, reach out to the local community and schools to support the teens outside of the physical church building.
Social events
• Coordinate four social activities during the school year.
• Coordinate registration logistics, number of participants and contact information.
• Prepare pro-forma for all events and manage these events within budget.
Service events
• Coordinate four Service Sunday activities during the school year.
• Coordinate registration logistics, number of participants and contact information.
• Prepare pro-forma for all events and manage these events within budget
Tactical office duties
• Create and maintain filing and organization systems for records, reports documents, etc.
• Prepare letters, memos and other documents using word processing, spreadsheet, database or presentation software.
• Move, lift, carry, push, pull and place objects weighing less than or equal to 25 pounds without assistance.
• Honor all requirements of the archdiocese’s safe environment program by cooperating and reporting, if needed, with parents and/or civil authorities any infractions that jeopardize a safe environment for youth (following the new reporting procedures and in all situations the pastor, parish administrator will be notified immediately, in that order.)
Specific candidate profile
Experience – skills – education
• Active, practicing Catholic
• Two to three years of experience in catechetical ministry preferred, knowledge of church organization dynamics
• Strong program development skills and ability to independently manage multiple projects
• Demonstrated ability to achieve results through others while providing direction and hands-on support
• Work on basic and advanced certifications within the Archdiocese of Atlanta
• Bachelor’s degree preferred
