Description
The director of youth ministry leads a team that will help develop and build effective relationships within the parish. The DYM will work with students, volunteers and parents to ensure the successful operation of all Life Teen and Edge programs and related activities. This position requires evening and weekend hours.
Provide leadership and oversight that ensures the delivery & execution of programs, direction/strategy for the middle school, high school and Confirmation ministries
Direct reports: high school youth minister, middle school youth minister
Grow youth participation with spiritual direction, building relationships with youth and their families, while ensuring the development, implementation and sustainability of youth ministry programs with established procedures and faith formation standards
Anticipate and seize opportunities to improve overall ministry’s level of efficiency and delivery of programs to make a strong and positive impact for the parish
Reports to the parish administrator and must align self with the goals/vision of St. Ann’s.
WORK ACTIVITIES
Managing youth ministry logistics & operations
• Lead and manage direct reports
• Set planning calendars that map out the long-term objectives so that youth ministry objectives are met
• Create plans to improve ministry performance for self and others who report directly or indirectly, such as volunteers.
• Schedule staff to ensure office coverage and maintain total department hours within budget.
• Oversee annual budget, finances and program pro-forma process.
• Manage and protect operating costs within budgeted targets.
• Oversee cash handling operations to ensure two persons participate in the count and transfer of cash to holding safe or accounting office when received.
• Supervise and approve the purchase of needed supplies and manage staff hours in accordance with the budget.
• Conduct meetings, performance evaluations and ongoing reviews with immediate staff and with the Core Team (less formal reviews done annually for ongoing development), so that priorities are aligned and create clear system of accountability to achieve results.
• Develop the overall vision and communication strategy for all youth ministry departments, including social media.
Leading youth ministry
• Communicate to the youth ministry staff and the Core Team so that expectations are understood and the execution of desired programs is consistently achieved.
• Create an active outreach process to drive youth attendance/participation.
• Foster cohesion and collaboration among the youth team members.
• Set priorities and drive results through effective volunteer management, sell ideas persuasively and influence so that objectives are met.
• Seek creative methods to fully utilize youth participants and parish volunteers to accomplish goals.
• Operate in a manner that promotes innovation and keep abreast of newest trends and continuing education to create greater youth ministry participation.
• Honor all requirements of the archdiocese’s safe environment programs by cooperating and reporting, if needed, with parents and/or civil authorities any infractions that jeopardize a safe environment for youth. (In all situations the pastor, parish administrator and director of religious education are to be notified immediately, in that order.)
• Ensure sensitive issues for the teens are handled with tact, respect, diplomacy and confidentiality.
• Spearhead Core and teen leadership recruitment, safe environment, training and formation through applications, interviews, monthly meetings, retreats, conferences, etc.
• Organize all contracted youth events held on and offsite through partner organizations.
• Work with liturgy team on all liturgical events.
• Maintain the environment of the Nolan Hall Teen Center.
• Maintain weekly communication through website, bulletin, onsite screens and social media.
Tactical office duties
• Computer skills, standard hardware & software (e.g., personal computers, e-mail & related folder applications, word processing software, Internet browsers, etc.)
• Mathematical reasoning: basic computing skills to manage and solve issues
• Oral comprehension, listen/process spoken information, reading comprehension, understanding written documents and writing effectively

SPECIFIC CONTRIBUTION AREAS
EDGE/LIFE TEEN EXPERIENCE ~ FAITH FORMATION PROGRAM:
Annually plan a proposal for all programs and events.
Maintain related databases, develop budget/pro-forma if required, coordinate & execute the annual plan.
Submitted plan is subject to revision over the course of the year with joint DYM and parish administrator approval.
Annual plan must include, yet not limited to the following:
• SUMMER & MISSION TRIPS: Champions the vision and content of all trips and supervises logistical execution of trips
• FUNDRAISING EVENTS: Supervises Life Teen/Edge youth ministers to plan fundraising events
• RETREATS: Works with Life Teen/Edge youth ministers on the content of all retreats and supervises execution of retreats
• BIBLE STUDY: Supervises Life Teen youth minister who champions Bible study
• LTLT MEETINGS: Champions the annual Life Teen leadership retreat and monthly enrichment meetings
• LIFE NIGHTS: Works with high school youth minister on the content of all Life Nights and supervises execution of Life Nights
• EDGE: Works with middle school/Confirmation youth minister on the content of all Edge activities and supervises execution of Edge activities
• PARENTS FOR LIFE: Acts as the liaison between Parents for Life Teen Board and youth ministry; acts as liaison between kitchen coordinator and youth ministry
• CORE TEAM: Champions the annual core team retreat and monthly enrichment meetings along with continual formation and relationship building
Rite of Christian Initiation for Teens
• Works with director of adult faith formation and the Encounter team to create a program that best fits the needs of the teens for current year
Specific Candidate Profile
Experience – Skills – Education
• Active Catholic
• Five years’ minimum of experience in youth programs, on staff or as a volunteer, preferably ministry-related
• Advanced for catechist certification for Atlanta archdiocese is required with the goal to receive master catechesis status.
• Knowledgeable of and experienced in working in a parish or similar Christian organization
• Ability to role model and cultivate a team that will direct itself toward the objectives of the parish
• Knowledgeable of process, techniques and strategies to manage religious programs or ministry with a proven track record in the development and execution of such programs, i.e. strong process management skills and ability to independently manage multiple projects involving staff and volunteers
• Demonstrated ability to achieve results through others while providing expertise and hands-on support
• Experience in managing budget, pro-forma and/or statements to meet cost management goals
