Our comprehensive programs provide a safe haven for personal growth and development, fostering skills that will empower our youth to become leaders of change in their communities.

Position Overview:

We are seeking a visionary and dedicated Director of Mission to provide leadership, management, and accountability to the missionaries of Vagabond Missions. This role presents a unique opportunity to make a lasting impact on the lives of teenagers facing adversity, helping them discover purpose, hope, and a sense of belonging. The Director of Mission will play a pivotal role in developing and executing strategies that align with our mission, values, and long-term goals. It is based at our Pittsburgh national office. This will be a support-raised position.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provides visionary leadership to guide the growth and direction of our ministry
  • Drives the mission by providing vision, guidance, and support to Area Directors and the Assistant Director of Mission
  • Serves on our Executive Leadership team
  • Actively participate in the spiritual life of the Vagabond Mission community and lead teams and individuals in spiritual development
  • Oversee and collaborate with the Assistant Director of Mission regarding New Missionary Training
  • Oversee our summer retreat/camp experiences for teens
  • Equip Area Directors and Team Leads to serve the missionaries that serve teens
  • Assist in hiring and recruiting of Area Directors.
  • Assist Area Directors in developing and leading the region’s fundraising strategy, ensuring excellence in communication to donors
  • Model direct ministry including relational ministry, local programming and camp
  • Visit cities as needed, including routine and emergency crisis visits
  • Work with Recruitment team to train and mentor a team of staff and volunteers to ensure the successful delivery of high-quality programs and services
  • Collaborate with the executive team to establish and manage the ministry’s budget, ensuring financial sustainability and responsible resource allocation
  • Continuously assess program impact and effectiveness through data collection and analysis, adjusting strategies as needed to achieve desired outcomes.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in social work, education, ministry, or a related field (Master’s preferred).
  • Proven experience in youth ministry, missionary work or a related field, with a deep understanding of the challenges facing inner-city teenagers
  • Strong leadership and organizational skills, with the ability to motivate and lead a team effectively
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, capable of building relationships with diverse stakeholders
  • Track record of successful program development, implementation, and evaluation
  • Proficiency in budget management and fundraising strategies
  • Passion for sharing the Gospel and a commitment to making a positive impact in underserved communities
  • Strong alignment with the mission, values, and vision of Vagabond Missions.
