Church of the Resurrection
Position: Director of Evangelization and Youth Ministry Reports To: Pastor
Effective Date: July 1, 2019 Classification: Exempt
1. Evangelization Ministry
To introduce and implement evangelization in all aspects of parish life.
a. Assess current evangelization efforts and parish formation program with a focus on strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats to success
b. Educate parish staff and leadership on the essential nature of evangelization and lead them in creating a parish evangelization mission that reaches all aspects of parish life
c. Engage parish committees to incorporate evangelization into their respective areas
d. Recruit, train, and support a core group of volunteers to assist in evangelization efforts which would include establishing small groups
e. Provide a plan of outreach to youth and young adults who are not spiritually engaged in Sunday worship and not physically attending events in our community
f. Be the staff liaison to Holy Family School system grades 6 -12 to provide evangelization ministry to students from Resurrection and to enhance parish school connection.
To organize, coordinate and execute the parish confirmation program.
a. Determine the curriculum and submit it to the pastor for approval.
b. Program to include items in the recommended Confirmation program set by the Archdiocese of Dubuque. Will include but not limited to:
i. Parent session at the beginning of the year
ii. Confirmation preparation sessions
iii. Stewardship requirement
iv. Call to Commitment
v. A retreat
vi. End of the year interviews for all candidates
c. Recruit small group leaders
i. Offer training and faith formation opportunities for small group leaders.
ii. Verify that all small group leaders have completed a Background check and are Safe Environment trained.
3. Youth Leadership Team
To promote parish high school youth involvement in Church, parish and community activities and ministries.
a. Establish and serve as the moderator for the youth leadership team YLT (adults and students) for planning and executing youth ministry activities and developing Christian leadership.
b. Have YLT chair and vice chair attend monthly parish council meeting
c. Communicate regularly with the youth and parish regarding events and activities using many forms of communication including the bulletin board, bulletin, website, texting, email and mailings.
d. Coordinate one YLT mass per month, August – May
e. Facilitate one YLT meeting per month, Sept – June
f. Facilitate one YLT event per month
4. High School Youth Ministry
To organize, coordinate, and execute the parish high school Youth Ministry for 9th-12th graders.
a. Create the annual program calendar
b. Develop and implement the adult core team for High School Youth Ministry
c. Facilitate and attend weekly or bi-weekly evenings September – May. Plus one offering per month June, July and August.
d. Communicate/update parents regarding the programs
e. Help plan and coordinate events for Resurrection, with Dubuque parishes and with the Archdiocese that may include:
i. National Catholic Youth Conference (NCYC)
ii. Dubuque Area Youth Ministry DAYM activities
iii. Service Trips
f. Promote and provide information for other youth activities that are available like TEC, CLI, retreats etc.
5. Middle School Youth Ministry
To organize, coordinate, and execute youth ministry activities, events and programs with adolescents in grades 6th – 8th
a. Offer Youth Ministry opportunities once per month from September – April for middle school Grades 7 & 8, Wednesday evenings
b. Offer two Youth Ministry opportunities during Summer Religious Education for 7th & 8th graders, held annually in June
c. Develop and implement the adult core team for Middle School Youth Ministry
d. Help plan and coordinate events for Resurrection, with Dubuque parishes and with the Archdiocese that may include:
i. Dubuque Area Youth Ministry DAYM activities
ii. Service Trips
e. Promote and provide information for other youth activities that are available like retreats and service projects
a. Attend the parish faith formation committee quarterly meeting and monthly stewardship meeting.
b. Attend weekly staff meetings.
c. Establish an annual budget for evangelization efforts and youth ministry programs.
d. Attend Dubuque Area Youth Ministry DAYM monthly meetings.
e. Verify that volunteers from all of the programming listed above are safe environment trained and have background checks.
f. Communicate regularly with the youth and parish regarding events and activities. This may include but not limited to the use of the church bulletin boards, the parish bulletin, brochures, website, email and mailings.
g. Evaluate programs and activities regularly and plan necessary adjustments and improvements. Submit, as necessary, these changes to the Pastor for approval.
Work Schedule: Work hours are to be used for activities, events, programs and workshops that directly impact and/or involve parish evangelization and the youth of Resurrection parish.
Work hours and schedule are to be agreed upon by the Pastor and the employee. The Director of Evangelization and Youth Ministry will work 40 hours per week.
Qualities and Competencies:
Personal: The Director of Evangelization and youth Ministry brings a variety of qualities to the ministry: prayerfulness, willingness to share faith openly, patience, flexibility, and a sense of joyfulness. The minister is emotionally stable, non-judgmental, and adaptable.
Professional: A BA or MA degree in Theology. A proven leader with experience in an evangelization program and directing parish youth formation. The Director of Evangelization and Youth Ministry must have successfully completed the CMG Safe Environment program and passed a background check.
a. Ability to communicate vision and goals both orally and written and by using a variety of media, including digital. Knowledge and ability to share Catholic faith with youth and adults alike.
b. Ability to develop constructive relationships with team members and parishioners.
c. Ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information.
d. Ability to work with youth, their parents, parishioners, and staff.
e. Must have good time management and planning skills and the willingness to delegate as needed.
Director of Evangelization & Youth Ministry. Church of the Resurrection in Dubuque, a vibrant parish with 2,400 families, is seeking a full-time Director of Evangelization & Youth Ministry.
