Coordinator of Middle School Youth Ministry
Full Time Salaried Employee with Benefits
St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church is looking for a dynamic person to help in our efforts to evangelize to the youth in our parish. This person would play an instrumental part in the continued development of our youth program. This position would oversee the direction and implementation our Middle School youth programs under the guidance of the Director of Evangelization and Catechesis. They would lead, train, and disciple the core members who will be assisting them on a weekly basis. Working directly with the Director of Evangelization and Catechesis, Coordinator of High School Youth and Young Adult Ministry, Priests, and others involved in the Ministry Office to carry out the evangelization vision for the youth of Saint Paul the Apostle.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

EDGE (Middle School Youth Ministry)

  • Coordinating our Middle School Youth Program (EDGE). This would include leading the Core team in planning and implementing EDGE sessions. This includes coordinating and attending planning meetings, practices, and set-up.
  • Coordinating the Sacraments preparation with the Coordinator of High School Youth and Young Adult Ministry for 7th-12th grade (Confirmation, First Communion and RCIA)
  • Implementing, coordinating, and overseeing a yearly retreat for middle school youth.
  • Engaging in Relational Ministry both inside and outside of our regularly schedule meetings. This could include visiting schools for lunches, going to sporting events, band concerts, recitals, etc.
  • Create, advertise, and promote coming Middle School Youth Group nights, retreats, and events by every means available such as posters, flyers, web site, bulletin, social media, etc.
  • Recruit, screen, lead, evaluate, and provide training for all Middle School Core Members.
  • This position includes but is not limited to XLT’s (Nights of Adoration and Worship), retreats, summer trips (Steubenville Lone Star, Mission Laredo, Six Flags, etc.), parent meetings, and parish wide events.
  • Will assist the Coordinator of High School Ministry with Life Teen during the summer when EDGE is not in session.
  • Communicate with other parish staff and organizations about youth participation as volunteers for parish events.
  • Other projects as assigned.

St. Paul Classical Catholic School Campus Ministry

  • Work with the school leadership to support the middle school youth in their faith journey.
  • Maintaining a weekly presence at the school during work hours.
  • Plan, develop and execute semester retreats for the middle school youth.
  • Attend school meetings as needed.
  • Coordinate sacrament preparation with Principle and Middle School Religion Teacher for 8th grade youth.

Administrative

  • Maintain budget for Middle School Youth Ministry.
  • Plan and coordinate calendar year to include Middle School Retreats, parent meetings, youth activities etc.
  • Follow and implement all diocesan, parish administrative policies as directed or as written in policy handbooks.
  • Follow and implement all Safe Environment requirements from the parish and diocese for volunteers helping with Middle School Program.
  • Collaborate with parish staff with registration, accounting, publications, records, curriculum, and volunteer utilization.
  • This position will be the lead and work with the Youth Ministry and Office Administrators to make sure all required paperwork for youth (7th-12th Grade) receiving the sacraments is collected and recorded in timely manner.

Qualifications

  • Must be a Catholic in good standing with the Church and living out one’s vocation to the best of their ability.
  • A vibrant person who has the ability and passion to articulate the Catholic Faith to youth that is easy for them to understand and that makes the faith come alive.
  • Example for teens and families by attending Mass and participating in the Catholic Sacraments on a regular basis.
  • A person who would be invested in the overall parish life of Saint Paul the Apostle.
  • Bachelor’s Degree or Certificate in Theology, Catechetics, Youth Ministry or related field and/or a minimum of 1-2 years of experience in ministry preferred.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, competent in Microsoft Suite, a good understanding and ability to use social media sites such as Canva, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc.
  • An understanding and ability to speak Spanish would be preferable but not required.
  • Musical background that includes the ability to lead Worship preferable but not required.
  • A team-oriented person who actively participates in staff meetings, OEC team meetings, prayer days (including weekly team Mass and Adoration) and educational days.
  • Continues personal education through appropriate classes and workshops.
  • Continues spiritual development by going on a personal retreat, pilgrimage, or something similar.

Working Conditions

  • Able to sit and perform computer work for lengthy periods of time. Frequent use of computer keyboard that requires repetitive hand and wrist movements.
  • Flexible hours, evenings and weekend work, occasional over-night stays.
  • This position entails frequent evening and weekend work.
  • Maintain proper boundaries between work and personal time and between employer and employee.
  • Frequent walking, standing, and sitting. Ability to lift to 50 pounds without assistance.

The Saint Paul Youth program is an established program with over 200 youth involved in both the middle and high school programs.
