Description
The role of Coordinator of Faith Formation – Grades K-7 is to ensure that the faith formation program for grades K-7 and families are in alignment with the parish mission and vision and are effective in helping children and families take the next step on their discipleship path. This position includes an emphasis on parent engagement beyond the classroom and increasing participation in Sunday Mass. The LIFT model used at the Apple Valley Catholic Community will be used for all grades 1-7.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities.
Working in concert with the entire staff – integrate the LIFT Model into grades K-7.
Develop, enhance, and implement a comprehensive LIFT model that serves the needs of children at various stages of learning. Supports the parish vision and key messaging. Engages the parents as contributors to faith development.
o K-1: Continue to offer Children’s Liturgy of the Word at two of the Sunday morning Masses. Recruit parents/teens to support CLOW.
o 2-4: Continue to offer the Go-Seek-Find program.
o First Communion Prep LIFT seminars. Host 5-6 seminars per year.
o 5-7: Continue to offer the EDGE program.
Create short-term and long-term plans to enhance the current programs.
o Recruit and train LIFT teams of parents to accompany the children & parents through the year.
Order and organize Go-Seek-Find and EDGE supplies.
Communicate with parents regularly.
Run bi-weekly LIFT session: October-April.
Organize food prep and kitchen teams when needed. Organize parent volunteers and/or potluck lunch/supper.
Parent and family support for individual students, as needed.
Help with the registration system with other members of staff.
Attend Archdiocesan meetings and training for Faith Formation.
Prepare yearly Faith Formation Report for RCAB.
Major Responsibilities: Faith Formation Grades K- 1
Coordinate the weekly Children’s Liturgy of the Word (CLOW) for both Sunday morning Masses.
o Select a Volunteer Leader that will help coordinate for a giving year.
o Recruit / mentor volunteers including Teens from Confirmation.
o Help to prepare material – using Loyola Press and other tools. Maintain a resource fold with all material for future use.
o Work closely with the Director of Youth Ministry to secure teens to lead CLOW.
Major Responsibilities: Faith Formation Grades 2-4.
Coordinate First Communion Seminars using the LIFT Model, 5-6 seminars per year.
o Use the Go-Seek-Find materials for the children & families
1st Reconciliation for the 2nd graders,
1st Communion Mass for the 2nd graders
Coordinate grades 3-4 sessions using the LIFT Model.
Identify and recruit LIFT leaders for grades 2-4.
Order and organize programs materials (Go-Seek-Find) and other off-the-shelf programs as deemed fit for grades 2-4.
Train Leader
o Weekly training in September before program opens
o Ongoing training sessions and support on a monthly basis
o Rehearse sessions
Major Responsibilities: Faith Formation Grades 5-7
Coordinate grades 5-7 using the LIFT Model. Utilize the current EDGE program (LIFE TEEN) established in the collaborative already.
Adapt materials for our kids and leaders, as needed.
Identify and recruit LIFT Leaders.
Train Leaders
o Weekly training in September before program opens
o Ongoing training sessions and support on a monthly basis
o Rehearse sessions
• Develop a Middle School Parent team that will help organize and volunteer – year over year.
o Middle school ministry service work. Should plan at least 2 per year.
o Middle School social events. Should plan 2 a year. Get parents involved early to assist with organizing and volunteering.
Other Responsibilities
Mission Trip Planning and Attendance (in concert with other faith formation leaders).
Auction Support (if desired).
Staff Responsibilities
Staff and committee meetings and projects.
Budgeting for K-7 programs with the other Faith Formation leaders.
Liturgical support: greeting, welcome desk, holidays–whatever is needed.
Calendaring events.
Occasional room setup, kitchen and closet cleaning, etc.
Working in concert with other staff promoting Church events through bulletin, Constant Contact and other social media tools.
Qualifications
Love of the Catholic faith, knowledge and witness of the Church’s teachings, and a desire to contribute to the mission of the Church.
Must be a practicing Catholic in good standing.
Healthy appreciation for young people and knowledge of current trends and culture of young people.
BS or BA degree is preferred.
0-3 years’ experience in parish or school Ministry preferred.
Needs to be highly organized, able to multi-task, and remain flexible to adjust to varying demands, personalities, and workload.
Expected to be available for some nights, weekends and other times based upon when young people are available.
Work/Life balance – ability to work from home 3-4 days a week. AVCC will provide all the equipment needed.
Physical Performance Elements
Ability to use a computer keyboard for up to 8 hours a day.
Ability to sit for up to 8 hours a day.
Ability to lift up to 20 pounds
