Campus Music Minister

DESCRIPTION

The Music Minister oversees the chapel music ministry team and develops coordinates, and administers excellent, engaging music ministries to support our lower, middle/upper school programming, The Minister has a passion for the Catholic faith, liturgical music and working with the youth.

Our Lady Chapel Priorities

  • Consults with the Campus Minister regarding themes of regular services, special events and programs for appropriate musical selection.
  • Provides leadership and supervision of the musical team through recruitment, rehearsals, musical training and spiritual nurture.
  • Experience with and enthusiasm for encouraging congregational involvement including working with musicians of all ages and of varying abilities.
  • Enlists and uses talents within the church/school to participate and grow the music ministry. We desire a candidate with the imagination, vision, enthusiasm and spiritual background necessary to grow the music ministry program.
  • Inspires the congregation in musical worship with a commitment to worship and a spiritual enthusiasm. Desires to become an active and involved participant in the life of the congregation.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Works with Campus Minister in selecting liturgical music for all liturgies, and preparing digital music lyric displays.
  • Participates in weekly Saturday evening (5:00 pm) and Sunday morning (10:00 am) masses.
  • Directs weekly rehearsals.
  • Attends weekly staff meetings to choose weekend music
  • Accompanies weddings, funeral/memorial services
  • Help couples plan liturgical music for chapel weddings
  • Works with families to prepare music for funerals
  • Prepares for and participate in special services: Lent, Holy Week, Easter services, All Saints Service, Thanksgiving Interfaith, Christmas services, memorial day, labor day, fourth of July, Thanksgiving day, all Holy Days of Obligations, Founder’s Day
  • Provides bulletin and newsletter articles promoting the Music Ministry of the church
  • Provides music for all 2nd grade first reconciliation evenings, First Communion Jesus Day retreat and all First Communion practice dates
  • Provides and participates in musical component for all retreats [grades 2-12]

School Related Priorities

  • Coordinates music for all school liturgies — Masses, prayer services, and other sacramental experiences.
  • Participates as a team member in all retreats 2-12
  • Coordinates rehearsals for all school liturgical choirs.
  • Recruits and coordinates rehearsals for middle/upper school student/faculty liturgical choir and band

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Command of rehearsal and performance technique in leading music ensembles.
  • Proficiency in instrumental and vocal pedagogy.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in working cooperatively with the variety of artists, technicians, and students involved in music and other disciplines.
  • Evidence of a strong commitment to the teaching of music as a part of an academically rigorous education.
  • Evidence of strong interpersonal communication and management skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and with a diverse population representing a wide range of abilities and ages.
  • Administrative skills sufficient to participate in planning worship services, preparing proposed music budgets, hiring musicians and recording hours for special services, etc.

Musical Skills

  • Quality singing voice
  • Able to lead a choir rehearsal and direct a choir with excellence
  • Competency with Chapel sound, lighting, and computer technology, including upkeep, updating, and purchasing all equipment
  • Reports to licensing bodies all music used in Chapel and school
  • Ability to learn new songs and keep up to date with the latest contemporary Christian music songs.
  • Understand and appreciate the full range of music styles, traditional, contemporary, etc.
  • Must have several years of experience in church worship/music ministry including worship leading.
