Campus Minister – Middle School/Junior High School

DESCRIPTION

The Middle School/Junior High School (Grades Six-Eight) Campus Minister works in cooperation and collaboration with Saint Ambrose School and Parish faculty/staff and the middle school/junior high school youth ministry team to enliven, animate and activate students’ relationship with Jesus and our Saint Ambrose School and Parish Catholic identity.

Reports to the Pastor of Saint Ambrose Parish and Head of Schools/Principal of Saint Ambrose School.

The Campus Minister develops and implements spiritual programs and religious/service activities that:

  • deepen students’ relationship with Jesus Christ. They yearn for prayer and personal encounters with the Lord – a personal relationship.
  • enhance the culture and Catholic identity/charism of our school and parish community.
  • develop and strengthen opportunities to form the minds and hearts of our middle school/junior high students to be missionary disciples in leading and serving our school and parish community, society and the Church.
  • discern and offer ways to support parents and family faith life.

Requirements

  • Must have Catholic experience in teaching and/or worship.
  • Be VIRTUS-trained and have clear background screening.
  • Have excellent interpersonal skills – high energy, positive, influential and collaborative; must be able to work with middle school/junior high school age students in Catholic school and parish environment.
  • Have excellent organizational skills – with emphasis on attention to detail
  • Have excellent communication skills – verbal (in person and over the phone) and written

Responsibilities:

  1. Strengthen and build a culture focused on relationship with Jesus Christ.
  2. Organize class and schoolwide liturgies including Mass, Adoration, prayer services.
  3. Plan and lead middle school/junior high ministry programming on Sundays beginning with 5:00 pm Mass.
  4. Plan and execute student retreats both on and off campus.
  5. Plan and implement service opportunities and social justice programs.
  6. Enhance the relationships between Saint Ambrose School and Parish and keep the school and parish community abreast of relevant faith-based programs.
  7. Provide opportunities and encouragement for 6th-8th Grade students to serve in leadership roles in ministry to the school and parish community.
  8. Foster an environment of faith that embraces students and encourages them as vital members of Saint Ambrose Parish, School and the Church.
  9. Witness both intellectually and spiritually to the life of missionary discipleship as one of joy and fulfillment.
  10. Complete other duties as assigned by the Pastor and/or Head of Schools/Principal.

In addition,

  1. Is regularly visible to students and creates an open and approachable environment to encourage all students to seek and develop a spiritual foundation in their lives.
  2. Attends weekend and Holy Day Masses, welcome events, and other related functions.
  3. Meets regularly with the Pastor and/or Head of Schools/Principal to review the week’s activities and discuss ideas, plans and issues.
