The Approach An Edge Night on the Mass About This Night The Edge Night begins with a Gather activity of playing a fitness themed game of Simon Says. The Proclaim will break open the importance of the Mass by discussing where the word “Mass” comes from and the proper ways we are called to prepare for every Mass. The Break and Send are combined, which will give the youth the opportunity to reflect and pray with Sacred Scripture from one of the readings of the upcoming Sunday. Goal of This Night The goal of this Edge Night is to help the youth better understand the Mass and how it provides the grace necessary to accomplish the mission that they are sent on at the end of every Mass. Catechism # 1332 - 1347 # 1385 - 1389 Scripture Acts 2:42 1 Corinthians 11:28 -29 Key Concepts • The word “Mass” comes from the Latin word “missio,” meaning “mission.” In the Mass, we are equipped for our mission and sent to accomplish it in our everyday lives. (CCC 1332) • The fundamental structure of the Mass has remained the same since the birth of the Church, which revolved around the early Christian faithful coming together for “the teaching of the apostles and to the communal life, to the breaking of bread and to the prayers” (Acts: 2:42). (CCC 1342-1347) • We are called to prepare ourselves for each Mass, even before we enter the doors of a church, so that we may give due reverence and respect to the Mass and be properly disposed to receiving Christ and all the grace He offers us.
