Journey An Edge Issue Night on Gender Identity Summary The Edge Night begins with a Gather game where the youth get an opportunity to reflect on their favorite things and see who in the group has the same interests. The Proclaim teaches the youth the centrality of their biological sex to their identity and discusses some of the struggles that people face with gender identity. The Break gives the youth an opportunity to offer specific prayer requests as well as write down any questions they have from the teaching. The Send concludes the Edge Night with a decade of the rosary specifically asking for Mary’s prayer and guidance in our journeys of discovering who we are. Goal of This Night The goal of this Edge Night is for the youth to come to a greater understanding that they were created out of love by God, specifically as male and female. As well as to address to the issue of gender identity confusion. God had a plan for you before you were ever born and He created you specifically from the very instant of your existence in your mother’s womb. – One foundational and very important part of our identity is our biological sex, whether we are male or female. – Do not feel pressured to identify with something just because you are struggling or are confused about your gender, but rather realize that finding your true identity as a man or a woman takes time, it takes growth, and it takes patience on your part.
