Dead Growth An Edge Night on Lent About this Night In the Gather, parents and youth compete in banana split races and then break off into their respective groups for a Proclaim that will help them learn more about the purpose of Lent. During the Break, the youth make Lenten trees, emphasizing the balance of giving things up, as well as adding things in. Parents make money trees to help visually motivate their families to give alms often during Lent. The Send is a time of Adoration, remembering that Christ made the ultimate sacrifice and is the one calling us to join Him in dying to ourselves in order to rise again. Goal of This Night The goal of this Edge Night is to help the youth and their parents dive into prayer, fasting, and almsgiving during the season of Lent. Catechism # 540 # 1095 # 1434 # 1438 Scripture Daniel 9:3 -6 Luke 4:1 -13 Key Concepts • Lent is a time for us to turn away from sin and turn toward God. • We follow the example of Jesus. He went into the desert for 40 days to fast and pray before He began His public ministry. In the same way, we spend 40 days preparing our hearts for Easter and making more room in our lives for God. • Over the next few weeks, we will be learning three specific types of offerings that help us better our relationship with God during Lent: prayer, fasting, and almsgiving.
