Today, despite same-sex attractions and transgender inclinations being a part of my story, self-identifying as gay, transgender, or even straight is something I choose not to do.
Retrospectively, I see how my understanding of what it meant to be a boy or a girl was anchored merely on my perception of masculinity and femininity. However, this was a moving target, completely at the whim of my imagination!

My advice to all you who are friends of guys or girls who have same-sex attraction is to simply love them. They need good same-gender friendship more than anything.
But as time has passed, I’ve found that I’m starting to look at guys less as eye-candy and more as a soul; a tabernacle for The Lord.
The grip of sin no longer had its heavy guilt weighing down on me anymore. My heart felt so free. That Confession was also the first time I came to admit out loud to anybody that I was attracted to guys.

The “Catholic Church hates gay people” is a misconception floating around society I’m sure many Catholics have heard many times. I don’t know about you, but I always wonder why people believe this misconception. My guess? Many Catholic individuals don’t know how to properly express love. When the Church’s individuals fail to express love, the Church loses its identity.
