There are many women who are a vital part of salvation history and their stories are critical parts of Sacred Scripture. This scriptural devotion will inspire young women to raise their heads along with Mary, Martha, Lydia, and Esther and look into the eyes of Jesus, the God who loves deeply and perfectly.

Society so often pits men and women against one another in a battle of the sexes, but what if instead of being at odds, we learned to value each other for the unique gifts we’ve been given? Seems like a better use of our time and effort! Saint Catherine of Siena said that if we want to set the world ablaze, we simply need to be who we were created to be. Imagine being so confident in our identity as sons and daughters of God that we light up the world just by being ourselves and encouraging each other to live up to our full potential.

Though this is by no means an easy topic to navigate, it seems that the root of the problem is simple: Why is one gender, in this case male, seen as superior over its counterpart?
Our words can resonate deeply in the hearts of others — they have the power to shape and inspire change. But if we distort our gift of femininity, or as my homie JP2 calls it, “the feminine genius,” we become destructive rather than constructive.
Society measures manliness by the amount of women a man can “get” and his strength, both physical and emotional — which I started to realize is absurd. If we hold ourselves to the very low standards this world uses to define a man, we are weak.

Where the world settles for passing pleasures, the Church calls us to live for an eternal Kingdom. Oftentimes, this call is difficult, and every person who resolves to follow Christ will have to bear a weighty cross. Those who struggle with gender confusion carry a particularly challenging cross that the world would rather ignore.

Today, despite same-sex attractions and transgender inclinations being a part of my story, self-identifying as gay, transgender, or even straight is something I choose not to do.
Retrospectively, I see how my understanding of what it meant to be a boy or a girl was anchored merely on my perception of masculinity and femininity. However, this was a moving target, completely at the whim of my imagination!

In order for society to be able to define us, it had to create us. Newsflash: society did not create us.
I’m a Catholic male and same-sex attractions are a part of my story. However, it has recently been written onto my heart that I might be called to marriage—with a woman.

If a person, or group of people who associate themselves with the Church have treated you poorly… well then you and I need to forgive them together. It wasn’t accurate. It wasn’t how the Church has ever encouraged them to treat you.
