Then: I served on summer staff in 2008, and on Service Crew in 2009, both at Covecrest in Tiger, Georgia.
Now: I am a Junior Theology major at Spring Hill College, and am discerning applying to a Graduate Program for Theology somewhere, or perhaps going on mission (or maybe the priesthood, you never know). Ultimately, at the moment the Lord is preparing me to do some sort of ministry, be it in a classroom, a different country, or a youth group room. Personally, I cannot wait!
Was it worth it? Would you do it again? It was beyond worth it! Experiencing the urgency of mission, the importance of loving through simple servitude, and the love found in a community based on His love caused me grow into a truer man of God. If the Lord called me to serve again on summer staff I would not even hesitate to say yes!
Do you still keep in touch with the summer staff from that year? Yes! My summer staff has a Facebook group in which we post updates and prayer requests, and also we call or chat with each other from time to time to see how our respective hearts are. I love it.
Why should a college student apply to be a summer missionary at camp? To experience a different form of service, and to experience the blessing of living in community. The atmosphere at the camp really nurtures faith in you, and for a college-aged guy or girl, this is incredibly important.
