Then: Summer staff in 2010 session 2 at covecrest!
Now: At University of Findlay I am majoring in animal science and biology with a minor in chemistry and I am planning on going to vet school. Here at UF I am involved in the Neumann club and am trying to get our Catholic community on campus a little more active and bigger because there’s plenty of Catholics out there, they just don’t come to Neumann club. When I’m not at school I’m at home in Colorado working in vet’s offices and driving my brother around.
Was it worth it? It was ABSOLUTELY worth it. I developed an even better relationship with mama Mary and with her help a better relationship with my earthly mother! I also had my heart completely ruined (in a GOOD) way by God and I grew even deeper in my relationship with Him. I also formed amazing relationships with my fellow summer staff and the other staff at camp. I even met some campers that changed my life. If God was calling me to serve again I would do it in a heartbeat! I know it would be a completely different experience but just as amazing and life changing.
Do you still keep in touch? I talk to alot of people from my summer staff. I talk to one of them almost everyday, even if it’s only writing on their facebook wall or reading what they wrote on my wall. I also know that even if I haven’t talked to someone in a couple of weeks or months I could call them up anytime and catch up and it’s not one of those weird awkward “why are you calling me I haven’t talked to you in forever” it’s “OH MY GOODNESS I MISS YOU! HOW IS YOUR LIFE! TELL ME EVERYTHING!” and it pretty much makes my day every time!
Why should a college student apply to be on summer missionary at camp? A college student should apply because in your college years it is so easy to fall away from the Church and get caught up in the lifestyle people expect college students to live. But being on summer staff it gives you a chance to reconnect with God in a whole new and amazing way! You can start to look at your life from this new light and bring it back with you to school. You’d be surprised how many people are at your schools that are looking for someone like them who is on fire for their faith as you are.
