Why I Did It: Kelly Garrison, University of Arizona

Kelly Ditto Garrison

Kelly (right) getting muddy at camp Covecrest.

Then: I was on Summer Staff 2008 Session 1 at Covecrest.

Now: I graduated from the University of Arizona in ’08.  I’m on the brink of graduating nursing at Chamberlain College of Nursing in February 2011 and I’m a CORE member at Christ the King Catholic Church where my husband is the youth minister! I think of Covecrest often and refer people to apply as often as I can.

Would you do it again? It was the best thing I’ve ever done. Before I went, I was idling in my faith. I knew I was Catholic but I did not know how to live it out in my life or who I was. At Covecrest, I learned that I was truly a daughter of God and He had a will for me, specifically, cause He loves me that much.

Do you keep in touch? I definitely keep in touch with my summer staff. Five of them were in my wedding, which I just had in June this year and three more came out to support me!

Why should a college student apply to become a summer missionary at camp? A college student should apply because it helps them focus their lives away from their lives at home. It helps them form their hearts and reorganize there lives in a beautiful place with people who will support them and encourage them. Also, they learn to be missionaries and how to minister to their peers and family and friends when they get home.

Interested? Apply now for summer 2011
