Doro Ludwig
Then: I served on Summer Staff in 2007 Session 2 at Covecrest, and 2009 at Tepeyac.
Now: After serving on Staff in `07 I moved to the US and started studying at Benedictine College in Kansas, now I‘m a senior getting ready to graduate after majoring in Theology/Youth Ministry and I‘ll wait and see what God wants me to do next with my life.
Was it worth it? YES every single minute of it. Every moment of sleep deprivation/mud wars was worth it.
It changed my life in so many ways both times that I did it, that I do not know where I would be today if it wasn‘t for my two times at Camp. God has blessed me abundantly especially while being on Summer Staff. I wish I could do it again but after being on Staff twice I feel like God is calling me somewhere else now…
Do you keep in touch? Sort of… my first time at camp was more than over 3 years ago I can say that in the beginning you talk a lot (and I talked a lot with them even while I was living in Germany)! It calms down after a while BUT I know that no matter where they are and what they do if I run into them it is always like being back at Camp…. With my second-time staff I have been slacking a lot more (Sorry
) but there are still people that I‘m in touch with and I always try to keep up. There is nothing I love more than random summer staff updates.
Why should a college student become a Life Teen summer missionary at camp? Because it is way better than just sitting at home or working at McDonald’s (not that it is bad thing but Camp is better)! I think that living in community, serving, being crazy, getting dirty, not sleeping enough, experiencing God in countless ways, meeting new people, singing, random dance parties, Mass everyday, Eucharistic Adoration, living in a bunkhouse/cabin, hiking TOD (in case you are at Tepeyac), loving everyone around you, having random conversations with teenagers, and laughing 24/7 are more than enough reason for anyone to apply to be on Summer Staff! I thank God everyday that I got the opportunity and I wish that all my friends at college could experience the same thing!
