Alison Loyd, nicknamed “Flails” by my Summer Staff
Then: Covecrest 2006 Session 2, Deus Caritas Est!
Now: After graduating from the University of Georgia in 2007, I spent a year as a CORE Member/Personal Assistant to the Youth Minister at St. John Neumann in Lilburn, GA. In 2009 I moved to San Diego, where I am getting my Masters and Credential in Special Education at the University of San Diego. I am also volunteering with a small youth group.
Was it worth it? Would you do it again? Was it worth it? Was it worth it? Only one of the best months of my entire life!!!!!!!! I thank God with every remembrance of that experience, which is FREQUENTLY! Because of where I am in my life and experience, I wouldn’t be a Summer Staffer again, but I would serve Summer Camp and/or Covecrest in another capacity in a heartbeat.
Do you still keep in touch? On a few different levels. I know that across the world, we remain a community. I keep up with approximately half via Facebook. There are 3 or 4 that I talk to regularly! I have 2 or 3 that I see when time and geography allow.
Why should a college student apply to be on summer missionary at a Life Teen camp? The college years are a great time for experiences like this. The Lord can use them to stretch you. It’s a great opportunity to take 6 weeks away from everyday life. It’s a chance to serve as amazing role models for teens. It’s a chance to discern your Vocation! What a place to spend your summer!
