Each summer for the past 10 years Life Teen has helped teens have the best week of their life. I have lived in a city for my whole life, and am the farthest thing from being qualified to be a summer camp counselor. However, I was continuously reminded that “God does not call the equipped, He equips the called.” The Lord used me in ways that I never expected, to reach teens who were seeking truth in the depths of their hearts.
Who is Jennifer Lawson? Then I served on summer staff at Covecrest in 2010. Now I’m a Junior at MTSU studying English Education and just trying to survive the craziness of college. Meet Meredythe Brainard from Covecrest in 2008. “I could never have put a price on this experience. I was truly blessed to have been able to live with such a community for six weeks. I learned more in that six weeks than I could have ever imagined. If God ever called me back I wouldn’t hesitate for a moment.”
“Being on summer staff is basically saying to God, “Lord, I allow you to ruin my life so that I may be rebuilt in You.” I know that sounds extreme, but it truly is what it is like. God completely rips apart any expectations you may have on how camp will go, and speaks to you in very powerful ways everyday.”
These photos are from the first day of Week 4 of Camp Covecrest. Campers had their parish pictures taken, introductions to the summer staff, skits, Carnival and the obstacle course at night, to name a few activities. For this week’s theme, “Behold the Mystery,” the host is Matt Smith and musicians are Mark and Kristen Dunbar.
