Bieber and Abortion 2.0: A Catholic's Response

In an industry where most grown adults would not dare to answer such questions, Justin Bieber takes a clear stand for life. You might think the anti-abortion comment would have polarized him, but it was his response to rape that has caused more controversy. The media and Pro-Life Christian groups have spun Bieber’s comment, accusing him of believing that it’s a part of God’s plan for women to be raped.

The March For Life: Why You Need To Go

I believe that abortion is a terrible evil. Because I believe that, for the past couple years I’ve gone to the March for Life held in Washington D.C. It’s a peaceful protest held in the middle of the city where an estimated 250,000-400,000 people gather to let the government know they’re not okay with the decision of Roe v. Wade, which legalized abortion in 1973.

There’s one scene that I’ll never forget from the March for Life…

Put to Sleep: The Church and the Death Penalty

(Editor’s Note: Professor Bob Rice is a veteran youth minister and professor at Franciscan University of Steubenville. This month, he guest blogs for us.)

A few weeks ago, John David Duty was killed by lethal injection in the state of Oklahoma. He had strangled his cellmate, Curtis Wise, with his shoelaces in 2001. He was already in jail for rape, robbery, and shooting with intent to kill in a 1978 conviction. Another man executed. So what? It happens 50-60 times a year…

Still others reduce it to a subjective argument, one in which “no one person” is right or wrong – that it’s all about “what’s right for you.” None of these give the full picture, and all fail to take into account God’s objective truth.

There’s so much I want to say, but I know that the Lord’s words are more powerful and more effective than anything I could ever come up with. Here are a few verses to help you help others understand that life begins at conception.

From The Editor’s Desk: We're Loving Life… All Life.

This month, we reach the 37th anniversary of the “Roe V. Wade” decision that legalized abortion In the US, and are again brought face to face with one of the most divisive issues in our nation. Since 1973, over 40 million children have been aborted in the United States. That’s more than any state’s population – if California fell into the ocean, it’d only be 37.2 million people. Whether we’d like to admit it or not – whether it’s comfortable or not – abortion is a monumental issue.

Archbishop Carlson Lays Down the Hammer on "Pro-choice Catholicism."

A few weeks ago, St. Louis Archbishop Robert Carlson published a letter regarding the Fifth Commandment (that’s the ‘Thou Shalt Not Kill’ one). He talked about a lot of life issues, but the biggest among them was abortion (emphasis added):

People who are casual about the sin of abortion and who choose to view it as a political issue rather than the serious moral issue that it is are guilty of violating the Fifth Commandment. You cannot be “pro-choice” (pro-abortion) and remain a Catholic in good standing.
